Originally a corner pub, The White Hart, the Snug Lounge is opposite the Govett-Brewster Gallery. The very cosy snug bar has been retained while the rest of the interior has been modernised into a bar/cocktail lounge with about five quite different seating areas, including a covered outdoor area. The food is Japanese style small dishes – a fabulous assortment. We had five dishes between two, which was plenty. Stand out dishes were squid, beef, kumara balls and a dish of broccoli. Steamed rice was free. There is an option of a large plate of one of each of the small plates for $25.00 per person – good value for a large group.
The wine list and cocktail list were impressive and the service was excellent, even though it was a very busy night on a long holiday weekend.

Went to snug lounge tonight and was looking forward to a nice night out with the bestie as we had previously been there awhile ago and had loved the chow down all you can eat. Tonight we paid $25 per person for the same meal as back then but only got one platter that would be the size of a $10 starter at other restaurants (Which had some things we didn't even like) instead of all you can eat platters that you can choose your favourites. So in the end we paid $80 total for one drink each and one platter("meal") to share then had to go to mcds and get a $5 combo that filled us up more than the $80 meal....

The Snug is well worth a visit. Huge ceiling height makes it feel very grand. There is an open fire which is a good touch. We had great service and our food was really yummy. We had the pork belly, chicken, squid rings and edamame beans. All fantastic.

my husband and i ate at snug on saturday night (16 July) and it was abit of a let down. we usually go and order Chow Down - but since they have taken this off the menu, they now only have Baby chow. this is $25.00 pp and you get 1x item from each part of the menu (kushiage & Yakitori) and this comes out a platter - about the size of a dinner plate. i dont think this platter is worth $50.00 and is nothing compared to Chow Down. you also get a small bowl of rice, noodles and coleslaw. the best things on the platter are the kumara mash balls, chicken skewers and the pork belly - the rest of the items are either overcooked, tough or oily. If i went back, i would only order the shared plates to make sure i could eat when i ordered. definitely NOT worth the money and they should really bring back Chow Down - even at a slightly increased cost - way better value and gives you the choice of actually ordering what you want to eat. Having said that though - the decor is great, service was fast and efficient and the coke was only $3.50.
