Unfortunately things did not go well to start with where the hotel lost all hot water and failed to get a trade’s person onsite quickly to fix the problem. All guest either showered / washed in a cold shower of went elsewhere. No apology offered, no notification received until I asked and only offered a response of ‘it’s never happened before’. This type of event could have been handled far better taking into account the hotel’s guests best interests. I’ve stayed numerous times at this hotel as do like the location and ease to walk to town, restaurants and cafés. There is limited and tight car parking available, it’s free but need to be extra careful when manoeuvring around the narrow car park area to save damaging other cars or your vehicle. I parked one night on the road due to the lack of space to fit a medium-sized sedan onsite. The rooms are very clean and tidy yet are quite dated. This hotel really needs a huge upgrade to bring it alive into the real world where you find up-market competitors these days. This is where Copthorne use to sit in the old days.
The lift between 3 floors seems like the slowest lift on the planet, both waiting for it to arrive and while using. It’s easy to get lost in the maze of corridors to rooms so read room direction signs as you leave reception to get to where you need to. The room is comfortable, the aircon isn’t overly responsive as did not seem to alter to temperatures I set and can be noisy on higher fan settings. There was no opening outside window in the room, but found the room very quiet which is a bonus to a good night’s sleep. There is a Sky Decoder in the room with access to sky movies plus sports being great along with free Wi-Fi (password given at check-in). From that aspect the hotel does well. With usual kettle, mugs, sachets of hot beverages there is also a mini bar and snack basket yet with a Service Station across the road you could save a small fortune and grab some snacks and non-alcoholic drinks from there.

Room tip: Always take to top floor as is generally quieter.

New decor in the hotel.

Good check in at reception, reasonable description of hotel facilities. Off street parking, not enough for full hotel. Price for lower end room was good for the central location.

Room was an old one but recently refurbished, made a good job on tight budget. Room was clean , tidy & well presented. The room A/C did not cool the room at all, given this was October I would hate to have this room in the summer.

At checkout the hotel manager did not enquire about the quality of our stay, hmmmmmmm.

Stayed here recently for a Thursday and Friday night. The hotel has recently been renovated my room was clean and tidy as expected. Staff are welcoming and friendly and they serve a nice dinner and breakfast. Location is great short couple of minute walk and your in the city. Wifi a little slow and limited parking onsite so if staying during busy periods be aware limited parking. The real negative of this hotel is the thumping nightclub music which starts around 11pm and stops around 3am. I was on the third floor and it felt like I was in the nightclub. Spoke to front desk on departing confirmed they are aware of the issue but within noise limitations. Defintely not within my noise limitations and unfortunately even though lots of positives regarding this property I will not be staying here again.

Our stay at the Copthorne Hotel Grand Central in New Plymouth was absolutely lovely. The service was excellent, always a friendly greeting. The room was lovely and the housekeeping staff was superb! Parking was a bit min so that caused a few hassles, but otherwise excellent.

The room was clean, the staff was polite and friendy. Everyone was helpful. I enjoyed the breakefast and the bed was comfortable and afforded a good night's sleep. All in all I enjoyed my stay and the food.
