Our recent four days spent in New Plymouth were made so memorable by the impeccable service and friendly hospitalty of hosts Eifion and Anne. Being met and welcomed at the airport after an evening flight was most appreciated.
We were fortunate to have the very large balcony room with sweeping views over New Plymouth to the Tasman Sea. The comfort of the custom made king bed was exceptional. The elegant bathroom for this room, while private, is separate but only a few steps down the hall, Bath robes for guest use are provided.
Cooked to order breakfasts in the large comfy dining room were plentiful and delicious.
Eifion and Anne are keen to help their guests get the most from their stay in New Plymouth and are a wealth of helpful (and humorous) information about the city and local attractions. They even provided bicycles for us to enjoy the magnificent coastal walkway/cycleway.
Glen Almond House, while functioning as an excellent B&B, is also very much a family home
which we found, added to its warmth and authenticity.
We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay in this historic house.

We stayed in this B&B in January 2012 and very much enjoyed our time there. The room was comfortable and spacious with a nice deck and outlook. We had access to a private bathroom along the hall and down a few stairs.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful and treated us to afternoon tea one day and cheese and crackers on the deck the next - both of which were much appreciated.

We noted in reviews before we booked that shoes may not be worn inside the house - this didn't bother us and it ensured a much more peaceful stay.

The house is walking distance from the New Plymouth foreshore and we enjoyed just being able to leave the car at the guesthouse and walk into town. The local park is also in easy walking distance. If however, you decide that you simply don't want to walk back - its a cheap taxi ride back to Glen Almond from the city centre.

We highly recommend this B&B for people wanting a few peaceful and relaxing days in New Plymouth.

Our stay was 2 nights in the very large bedroom upstairs with the balcony. It had lovely views out over the city and further towards the sea The owners are very helpful and friendly, also very particular to keep their historic home in the original state.
The website stated a private bathroom. This bathroom was on a lower floor, down a small flight of stairs and had to be shared if more guests were staying at the same time. This we found disappointing.
Because of the polished timber floors, we were asked to leave our shoes by the back door, which is used as the entry. No shoes were allowed inside, this is a bit unusual for a B&B in this price range.

Room Tip: Ask for the large room with the balcony, because it is sunny and warm

Glen Almond is an elegant historic house very well located near important sites. Our downstairs room was beautiful and comfortable, but the upstairs room with balcony etc was really special, you wont want to leave it. The hosts are knowledgeable and all their recommendations were right on. they were particularly helpful with messages and connections. dont miss Tupare private house and garden; the coastal walkway ; the new pedestrian bridge; Fernery in Pukekura Park and hiking at Mt Egmont only 20 minutes away. The rugged outdoors and the elegant indoors, what a combo.

A large attractive house on the edge of town.
Our stay was two nights and we had a very large room with balcony and views over the bay.
Our hosts were excellent and we benefitted from their local knowledge on eating places and local events which gave an extra dimension to our stay. They were also exceptionally kind in helping us restore our tramping kit after an eventful epidode in the Egemont NP.
Enjoyed the generous and tasty breakfast plus the home cooked room snacks each day.
Highly recommended and good value - in New Plymouth - this is the place to stay.
