Arrived at Cook's Quarter's late on a cold and wet Winter Sunday evening, having driven over 100km. We were met by the owners, Lynn and David and were immediately offered a hot drink and relaxed in their homely sitting room. The centrepiece of the room is a map painted onto one wall which is a map of the world and has pins in for all the locations where they guests have come from over the years. There is only two bedrooms, we were in the double which was very clean and comfortable and had already had the electric blanket turned on. Bathroom / shower was spotless.

Breakfast was very pleasent with numerous courses and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts who waited on us hand and foot. Following this David gave us a complimentary tour of Gisborne and took us up to the Captain Cook monument in his car. Lynn is a patchwork / fabric art enthusiast and showed us some of her extensive collection of work.

The place was a great find and we were made very welcome. The only pity was the location, on the main road nextdoor to a row of rather scruffy local shops and just opposite a 24 hour petrol station. However there is nothing that picturesque in Gisborne so it was probably not much worse that the rest of the town. The location did not affect our enjoyment of the accommodation and there is safe offstreet parking available to residents.

I would thoroughly recommend this b&b to others but is more ideal for couples and older / retired parties that young persons or families.
