I love Parnell, far enough from the hustle and bustle of the city center. I am not a shopper, so this area may not appeal, as it has a few boutiques, but lots of small cafes. Near a great walking area and the big museum. This area closes down early, so be prepared! The hotel was well run and quiet, mainly because of the season and the lack of concerts! The friendly staff were helpful, true to the Kiwi tradition.

Thought we had booked a motel we knew, so this was a surprise. However all was good, very old on the outside and rooms are basic, but very clean. The concierge is very helpful? Wine glasses, bottle opener. Best part the restaurant on site- amazing $10 breakfasts.

Central location makes this a great place to stay. The room was quite cold though when we arrived but warmed up once we had the heaters going, nope no heat pump. We were in the family room, good size although only two bedrooms no living area but fine for a family. Good sized kitchen. Unfortunately I think we were right underneath the cafe so a very early early wake up with feet walking across the floor and doors opening and shutting. The cafe is a great place for breakfast though, very reasonable and great food.

The owners have put in some effort to refresh this hotel, but there is not much between the rooms so we ended up having to have words with the room next door because of the noise. Very limited parking available.

After traveling for over 24 hours this little hotel was an oasis - the front desk was kind enough to arrange a very early (around 10 am) check-in and we had the chance to shower, change into clean clothes and grab a hearty meal at the cafe before walking off our fatigue.

Two notes: the driveway is a tiny bit tricky to locate when you're first arriving, and it's very steep so plan on hauling your luggage either up flights of stairs or all the way up the incline to the front.

That said, it's worth it. Good price, plenty big space and clean as a whistle.
