The finest restaurant I've visited in many a year. Expert staff guide you though a complex, delicious master menu, with something to appeal to every palate

Great place to go and experience what service should be in a restaurant. Polished and professional without being stuffy or obtrusive. Loved the cheese selection being brought to the table, a really nice touch. Some of the crockery and seats could do with an overhaul but that's only cosmetic. The pureness of flavour in the terrine was a standout for us.

Plenty of small and thought-provoking dishes hidden amongst the garish. I nailed it until the last dish where I had a nibble on something that wasn't meant to be eaten. Overall the night was enjoyable, but I concur with Rick Stein who enjoys a real hearty meal that isn't too pretentious.

The service was high class where the wait staff would dutifully go through their processes in a methodical fashion and explain the dish. There is so much going on using so many unique ingredients that the plate description was often lost in translation. I think they could achieve a better outcome by ascertaining whether their description makes sense, and elaborating in a more nuts-n-bolts kind of way. I too could bamboozle people 'talking shop' with hints of one-upmanship, but see this as a barrier to communication and detrimental to creating a warm and friendly experience.

Wait staff were great, food was tasty and well presented although sometimes distinguishing between the food and garnish was a challenge, did well until the end of the experience when i ate the garnish that should not have been eaten. If your into pretentious dinning it's a must do if your a Rick Stein foodie and like substance to your food then you will enjoy the experience but most likely won't repeat it.

My wife and I decided to go to Auckland for a long weekend getaway from the craziness of Sydney. I had heard from a number of friends and work collegues that New Zealand has amazing food due to number of the endless fresh options available in NZ, as a result we were both looking forward to splashing out at a restaurant with as good a reputation as the Grove.

We were warmly welcomed as soon as we walked through the door from a chilly Auckland night and from that point the staff were amazing.

We decided on the full degistation menu and every course from start to end was not only a feast for the eyes the levels of flavour were incredible. It is very difficult to choose a favourite dish as each course was so good however for me the lobster was the pick of the menu which for me is surprizing as I have never had a lobster dish that I would go back for however this one is as close to perfect as you can get.

The knowledge and passion from both the wait staff and sommelier was amazing which just added to what was an amazing night.

I cannot recommend visiting the Grove highly enough, I know that I will certainly return during my next visit to Auckland.
