This is one of my favourite places to stay on the whole Dampier Peninsula. If you're a group, I recommend staying in the open deck. The kitchen's fully equipped, the open-air beds are comfy, the bathrooms spotless and there's a campfire and chairs ready for the taking. We have been back two years in a row and will continue to visit. Nothing beats sitting on the lookout, sipping wine and watching the whales dance under the sunset. It's exclusive enough that you have a beach to yourself, but the price is very accessible. Visiting Pat, Dave and Rex (the friendly dog) feels like visiting chilled-out extended family members.

Room Tip: get the open deck if you're a group, although the tents are also very roomy.

My wife & I travelled from Broome to Mercedes Cove recently. It needs to be said that I am not a camper while my wife in fact loves it. Mercedes Cove is owned and operated by Pat & David along with Rex the dog. I was informed by Pat that at their establishment it was “glamping” not camping! This place is situated 185km north of Broome on the Dampier Peninsular. Upon leaving Broome you travel out of town and then left onto the Cape Leveque Rd.
After a decent sealed road you then come upon an 80km stretch of unsealed but graded road where it is necessary to drive according to conditions prevailing as you go. After returning to sealed road and passing the Beagle Bay Mission turnoff you will find another left turn to Middle Lagoon. Follow the signs along that road to Mercedes Cove which is 33km on dirt from the Cape Leveque road. Not far from your destination is a very switch back section that covers almost 1km and care is necessary.
It is worth noting that Mercedes Cove provides accommodation and no other form of camping or caravanning is permitted there. Prior reservations are essential and restricted. The end of their season is the last week in September & prior to the start of the “wet season”.
They have 2 hard cabins complete with air-conditioned bedrooms and multiple beds including some bunks. There are also 2 ECO tents which are approx. 4.5m square and are about 1m off the ground but on a hard base. Ours was equipped with a queen sized bed and the other also had 2 additional single beds. They are not air-conditioned but have excellent fly screens allowing flow through ventilation from all sides which we found more than adequate.
Pat & David advised us they have no intention on adding to the available accommodation as they wish to retain the quiet and intimate existing setting.
Advertising says the ECO tents are self-contained. They are except for ablutions and toilet which are located close by. Each tent has a bar sized fridge, gas stove for cooking & a kettle. There is also a small gas BBQ available. At the front of the tent is a deck with chairs & a table. Perfect for the odd glass of wine while overlooking the magnificent bay. The tents are situated some 4m above the bay on the top of a cliff and a path leads down to the beach. Watch children swimming as the rip & undertow can be quite heavy depending on the tide that day.
Children are well catered for with equipment in a shaded play area.
Water at Mercedes Cove is perfect and tastes great. No food purchasing is available so be self-sufficient in all things.
We were treated to being able to watch whales each day we were there & were fantastic to see as they cruised by and also saw magnificent sea eagles.
We look forward to future visits & relaxation.

Room Tip: ECO tents have the best views

this place is peaceful pure and feels so clean in its quiet energy and care of the hosts Pat and David and dog Rex or Roy. I had the front safari tent and cannot imagine a more perfect beach front paradise...i had the whole place to myself for 2 nights mid week and saw whales and dolphins each day the reef and water is so clean and clear..i will come back oneday.
i was told it is healing place and it certainly feels soft and soothing being there and so beautiful.. also told ppl conceive and make life long committments there!
i caught the posty vehical up it will probably cost 200 each way unless a group of you. the road in from cape leveque road is very treacherous so need a good strong 4 wheel drive ith high clearance.
worth going down the long slow track to experience this beauty.

Room Tip: the safari tent at end closest to beach

We spent two nights in the two bedroom cabin at Mercedes Cove. Very comfortable fully self contained. Terrific hosts Pat & Dave and of course Rex. Superb private beaches and the magic lookout where you can relax with your beverage of choice watch the whales and the sunset. It really does not get much better than that. Very special place we will be back again and again.,

Room Tip: Both cabins are fine and both safari tents are excellent.
