This places make fresh corn tortillas on site and are served at Fonda and Mamasita to name only a few.

But this quaint little place in a bit of an industrial area also promises bags of flavour! I recommend all of the pork taco and ceviche tostada but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Friday night and the place was full. No doubt reflecting the fact that lots of other people seem to like it (certainly according to the reviews which I didn't see until I began to write this.)

We had the set menu for two and a jug of sangria. The very small jug of sangria was $35 and the set menus $30 each. So, a $95 meal. What did we get?

The first jarring note was that the cheerful yellow plates were plastic as were the tumblers we were given to go with the bottled water brought to us.

Apart from being a very small quantity, the sangria seemed to have hardly any alcohol in it at all and had a dusky herbal undertone that was unpleasant.

On arrival, corn chips and two small bowls of salsa were made available. The corn chips were welcomely home-made. However, the salsa were a real let-down. One tasted to me as if its major ingredient was canned cream of tomato soup and the other was more like a tomato paste concoction. Nothing fresh or spicy here.

The set menu was 6 (mini) dishes "chosen by the chef". One of them was a bowl of nachos. It was composed of melted cheese, runny tomato juice, a tablespoonful amount of sour cream and corn chips that were totally soggy. (It must have been microwaved.) The rest of the food was without flavour and lukewarm.

It goes without saying that we'll not be going back. I just can't understand the good reviews and big crowd.

Only good points: the look and atmosphere were great and the staff pleasant.

Lived in Texas, been to Mexico repeatedly, and this stands up to anything I've ever eaten classified as Mexican anywhere! All the food is delicious and fresh, many people come here just for their takeaway corn tortilla needs, they are so perfect. Drinks are fab as well. Super personal service as well.

We were on our way to Tex Mex in Kensington, but the sight of the place made us turn around and look for somewhere else. How lucky were we to find this little gem!
Eating at La Tortilleria is like being in a small back street of Mexico City. There are the colourful murals on the outside of the building, genuine Mexican beers and off course the food. Authentic taco's, enchiladas, nachos and flautas, to name a few. The wait staff is superb, straight from Mexico to Kensington! Highly recommend this place.

This place is colourful, vibrant, pokey, packed full of happy customers , so book or get in early. True Authentic homemade Mexican food, beer, sangeria, etc.
First timers need to be aware the dishes are tiny (+cheap) so you order a few things to make meal. Enjoy. Service is friendly :D
