Owner description: The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is Australia's second-oldest established in 1818. These gardens are home to the largest collection of mature conifers in the Southern Hemisphere and it also has the only subantarctic plant house in the world. A great restaurant and cafe is available onsite and it is a wonderful place to visit all year round. Visit our website for more information.

Lots of rare and significant flora. Some of the old trees are awe inspiring. We particularly liked the sub-arctic display, and the interesting narrative provided for some of the plants. Staff were enthusiastic and helpful. Beautifully landscaped & maintained.

Very well laid out and generous gardens. Loved the conservatory and Japanese Garden, but so many other sections to explore.

This is a stop on the Hop On/Hop Off red busses, and what a stop. The trees are towering old timers, and the grounds are just beautiful. Everything is well marked for those trying to get an education, and the layout is pretty user friendly even if you are a senior...walking it is quite possible. There are also transport carts you can hire for a more extensive tour. There's a lovely cafe for some morning cafe, also with a lovely view. And there was even a post box where I was able to mail off some post card "treasures". A delightful couple of hours.

The Hobart Botanical Gardens are an easy walk from the Hobart CBD and a great way to spend an hour or two walking through a botanical display that reflects Tasmania's culture and history. Located next to Hobart's Government House, you can park easily near the entrance to the Gardens or alternatively, meander your way from the City. An easy way to see multiple sites to and from a beautiful garden setting. Don't forget to see the Japanese Gardens located within!

Had a wonderful time in the gardens. Got off to a great start with a wonderful, friendly and helpful volunteer at the gate, so with map in hand off we set.
A pretty lake with a oriental bridge and "arty" wooden decking, to the old wall garden, the Antarctic dome experience, japanese garden, the arch celebrating 150 yrs, the teaching gardening & planting area for schools. There is so much to see and the colour!. Easy walking, nicely layed out and a huge amount of colour about. This was my second visit, as i didn't have enough time a year ago to appreciate it.
