Because our trip to Clare Valley was with a tour company, that only stopped at 1 winery in McLaren. The staff there ignored us so we left after a few minutes.

Clare is a country town like many others except there are plenty of excellent wineries with plenty of good food ... just nominate a driver in advance!

I ate at Skillogalee and Reilly's and both were excellent for food and wine. We even watched a local footy game!

It's worth visiting during the gourmet weekend which is held every May. It's a great weekend to introduce you to the wonders of this great wine region of South Australia.

clare valley is certainlly a wine region that has its own charisma, though if compared to big wine regions around europe it loses its charm at all. if in the area and with time give it a go!

It's a great drive through the Barrossa to the Clare Valley. Lots of lovely little towns on the way and wineries - don't miss it.
