We stayed here on our honeymoon with our two children. We had been SPOILT by the team at peppers coral coast, as whilst never expecting a totally romantic occasion being with kids, we weren't quiet expecting things to be so substandard. We chose reef view because it was one of the only really family friendly Accomodation available. With the room charge being nearly $600 per night with the promise of 4 stars I was hopeful. 4 stars is a total joke, try 2, and the price is just sickening.
Entire hotel 10 years lacking a refurb, staff were rude and unhelpful, food was substandard, hallway and lobby dirty.

We were originally booked in the Palm Bungelows but when we arrived they upgraded us to the Reef View. The room was very clean, great views. The staff was very helpful and there was lots to do!! Loved all of the "toys" at the beach. Beware, the water in the pool is very cold! We went to the Koala breakfast, Koala are great, breakfast was not.

A friend and I stayed here for 3 nights during race week. Unfortunately for us the weather was horrible, so we only had one day tour and the other 2 days we were held hostage at the resort.

The room at the reef view hotel was good enough - very spacious, clean beds, and clean bathroom. Other reviewers commented on the worn furniture and out dated rooms, which I second, but relatively speaking you won't be in your room that much. The view from the room is fantastic of the Coral Sea, amazing to wake up to that every day. Make sure to close your balcony doors - we had a mischievous cockatoo sneak in our room while we were at breakfast. The reception, concierge and housekeeping were very nice and personable.

As for the resort itself, everything was very pricey - so get ready for that. You are able to charge everything to the room which is very convenient - but you tend to forget how you're spending. And if the tours are cancelled - get ready to spend all your dough on drinks and food.

Room tip: If you have a reef view - get a room at least above the 8th floor. We stayed on the 12th.

Dear holeyanna,

I’m so glad you liked the Reef View Hotel, but what a shame that you endured such (unseasonably) bad weather during your stay. Historically our August weather is overwhelmingly good, with over 84% of days recorded as ‘non-cloudy’. It seems as though ‘mother nature’ wasn’t playing by the rules during your short visit. Nevertheless, I believe that under such circumstances Hamilton Island offers a huge range of wet weather activities including the indoor bowling alley, day spa, gym, squash court hire, target shooting, golf driving range, wildlife park, quad biking, mini-golf, shopping, and not to mention over 10 restaurants and 6 bars for guests to enjoy. Additionally during Race Week you would have had access to over 50 live (free) entertainment options over the course of the week to enjoy.

I empathise with you that the weather wasn’t very good, especially when you came from so far away to visit us. I truly hope that one day you can return to see the island and the surrounding Whitsundays in a more positive light. If that day comes, we’d love to welcome you back to show you the island at its best.

We (2 adults) stayed at the Reef View Hotel for 5 nights in August.
It's great how as soon as you land you are on holiday! The bus from the hotel picks you up, we checked in and then the hotel rang us a couple of hours later to advise the room was ready and all we had to do was pick up the key! At check in, you are given all the info you need including the list of restaurants with booking numbers etc. This was a great idea as we had a look over it during lunch! there are shuttle buses which take you around the island as well - another great service.
We got a package that included breakfast - which I would recommend! There are 3 eating options for breakfast and they were all lovely. From some posts I read prior to the trip, I thought to Koala breakfast would be ordinary, but it was nice. And you are right next to the koalas, very cute and great photo opportunities.
The hotel also has a gym and you can use the catamarans, surf ski's etc for free during your stay - make sure you take your room key though. This was fantastic and alot of fun.
We did the fantasea full day trip to the reef which we loved! I recommend this one. The BBQ lunch was lovely and all you need to buy during the day is drinks and purchase any photos of you during the day, this is optional. We purchased the disc instead of the photos as we can print them off ourselves.
I would not say the restaurants on the Island are over the top expensive as what I had read on other posts.
We enjoyed meals at the steak house, mariners seafood and mariners tavern, and at the hotel. and if we had of had more nights on the island we would have gone back to these restaurants, especially mariners seafood.
Our room was on the 16 floor and the view was fantastic - there is very lovely room furnishings and the timber furniture on the balconies is a high standard and comfy - we often sat out on the balcony and read! The bathrooms are a great size with a bath and 2 basins, so plenty of room and the rooms are serviced with fresh towel/pool towels etc daily.
The staff were all very friendly and help ful. There is a great tour desk and a wall where you can take brochures to peruse over. That's what we did and then selected our activities from there.
I would recommend that if you had any queries about the hotel after reading some posts to contact them yourself!
Thank you Reef Hotel! We'll be back!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Reef View for 4 nights in late August. The view was truly like no other (see picture attached) The room was great as well (there is a pic of this also.) The bathroom had a beautiful bathtub and shower. The hotel also had an awesome continental breakfast. Tons to pick from and in the 4 mornings we are there it didn't get old.

Pros/Suggestions
1. The cafe down the street where you can hold the koalas has a $30 breakfast. If you are staying at the Reef View it is free. Do this to mix it up! If you don't want to pay to hold the koalas you can look at them in the trees
2. Transportation on the island is flawless. Busses are running and they pick you up and drop you off from the airport.
3. Do the Cruise Indigo snorkel and day trip to Whitehaven. The tour guides were awesome and so was the boat. The nighttime sunset and dine cruise was also a highlight of the trip. Really fair pricing too!
4. If you're staying at the Reef View you can use 3 of the 4 pools on the island that are within walking distance. It was nice to mix it up and go to them.
5. In winter the weather was beautiful. I couldn't wear dresses at night but during the day it was perfections!
6. Certain water sports are free when you stay at the hotel.
7. Set your alarm for 5:45am and sit outside and watch the sun rise. Totally worth it.
8. Go to the general store and bottle shop and buy snacks and wine. It will save you some money. We got a red and white boxed wine and it was pretty good!

Cons
1. The hotel room was not meticulous. There were a couple stains from leaks in the ceiling and their was a long brown hair that hadn't been cleaned out of our bathtub. I'm not an overly picky person so I was by no means bothered. Someone else may be, especially for the money being paid.
2. I wouldn't say the island was "couple friendly." I would not suggest honeymooning here. I would say the majority of the people on the island were families or there for weddings. My boyfriend and I felt like one of the only young couples there. (If you are looking for a honeymoon spot I would highly suggest Secrets Maroma Beach, Mexico)
3. The beach outside the resort is a beautiful view no doubt. It was incredibly picturesque but for a couple it was not totally ideal. The stretch of beach wasn't huge, there weren't cabanas, waiters or a beach bar.

If you have any questions about my experience shoot me a message!

Room tip: If you have a reef view room you can't go wrong!
