I stay at Mantra hotels quite regularly as they are reasonably well-priced. This was a last minute booking for Christmas and so relatively good value $261/night. It has some excellent pros such as steam room, sauna, pool and gym with weights; it is well positioned to beach, main mall, shops and restaurants; close to tram etc so perfect in that respect. the pool area is great and being able to order cocktails by the pool is fantastic. Great views to the beach. I would say the cons are that it's rooms are a bit tired - the bathroom is tiny, with mould on ceiling and floors a nit dirty and no where to put toiletries. The beds are very uncomfortable and instead of one queen bed we got two doubles. The pillows are great. It has a mini bar with reasonable costs. We had to park two blocks down though and luckily we didn't want to take the car in and out so if you have a mobility issue make sure they accommodate you accordingly. Parking is also $17/night so that was a surprise. It seemed to take a while to check in - even though it was around 4pm it seemed like they had forgotten us. It was also hard to communicate with staff because the key numbers on the phone have faded and we had to look up the number in the book. Also difficult to communicate with cleaning staff as they didn't speak English. We had a bit of trouble asking for milk (which wasn't in the room) and extra shampoo etc. If a large hotel group like Mantra is going to contract people from non-English speaking backgrounds the empower them by supporting them to learn English. If you have a mobility impairment then you won't be able to access the pool. I think this is very problematic.

Room tip: Ask for ocean view

Awful start to check in:
1. Someone else had already checked in apparently under the exact same name. Made to wait and offered free drinks and free park for duration of stay while stuff up sorted out
2. On arrival in room, total shock horror at room- outed dated devote, grimy sliding doors, mouldy on small balcony, no ventilation in bathroom, mouldy in bath tub, shower in bath tub
3. Beds! Well that's just a whole different level! Springs jutting out, flat pillows- totally uncomfortable
4. Tacky furniture, coffee stains on old and dirty table
5. Non smoking room with an ashtray provided haha
6. In house Movies very expensive
7. Paid parking at $19/night
8. $200.00 deposited to be released in 10-14 days? Who does that?
9. Noisy neighbours
10. Rude staff trying to gob off guests as if we're a burden- very off handish and dismissive. If you don't like your job, you know what to do. I pay my dues and expect good service.
11. Limited equipment in gym
12. No draws in bathroom which is so tiny for 2 nearly six footers.
13. The beds are totally uncomfortable with sleepless nights
14. Pay for wifi, pay for parking, pay for movies; pay for everything??? Haven't I paid enough for accommodation already?
15. Staff training in HR vital

Once again Christmas lunch was great, thanks Simon and Thelma for looking after us again, the third year in a row. It's not just the food, it's the atmosphere, the live music and the presentation - brilliant.

Pretty standard rooms, but the rates are pretty good for what you get. We thought $120 per night was great value considering in many other cities you'll be paying $250 to $350 for the same thing. Good location and nice views.

Had a great time, location, room, staff were excellent! close to IGA for supplies.......
Across the road youll get the best pancakes ever! Great coffee 2! The cleaners are very hardworking and Ripleys believe it or not is just around the corner, belive it or not! :)
