We booked at the Reef Resort based on the pictures of the pool, restaurant and rooms. 2 out of 3 were accurate. The pool and restaurant matched. The main pool is a real resort pool and we loved it. We felt like we were in paradise. The room though (three bedroom) was dirty, smelled and not well maintained. We were disappointed with it. So, if you are only in the room for short times like we were because of our activities then it is ok but if you intend on spending time in the room then make sure you ask for a clean, better maintained room.

The hotel amenities are nice (particularly the pools), and the staff is extremely helpful. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite which was very nice. The room (although a bit dated) had a kitchen and a washer and dryer which was very convenient. I really enjoyed breakfast. There is a public shuttlebus which stops at the hotel which will take you to points of interest in Port Douglas, including the main street where the shops and restaurants are located. Had a very comfortable stay.

Dear Glenn,
Thank you for your lovely review. We are pleased you had a comfortable stay. I agree with you, while our villas are older, they are spacious and provide all the comforts of home. Our location is great for those wanting to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Port Douglas town center, with the convenience of easy access to the local shuttle service for shopping and dining in town. We look forward to having you stay with us again in the near future.

What a great time we spend here with our family of 4 (4 and 6 year old).
Pools are great and we loved our unit, had everything we needed. Enjoyed our breakfast and, although the menu choices are limited, had some fantastic dinners at the resort; absolutely recommended to dine in. We had more family members in a range of units as we had a celebration and staff was very accommodating and helpful throughout. Kids loved the pools.

Highly recommended.

The Resort itself was great, lots of pools, nice restaurant, well set up gym but the units were outdated and needed attention. A major downfall in the unit was the lack of exhaust fans in both bathrooms and this wouldn't be as bad if the windows opened but they didn't. It was like a sauna after showering and I strugled to breathe. The drawers in the kitchen got stuck, the sliding doors didn't slide very well, lots of little things added up. The Resort staff were all very friendly and lovely. The morning chef gave up tips on the weather for our Reef trip and had a chat everyday. It is out of town a bit but we liked this and Four Mile Beach is a short walk from Resort. Another factor which I didn't know when we booked was your unit doesn't get serviced unless you stay over a week. You have a laundry so have to wash your own towels.

Dear Louise D

Thank you for your review, I will be sure to pass on your lovely feedback regarding our staff. While our resort is a quick drive from town center, we are a short walk away from the beautiful Four Mile beach, I am pleased you found our location to be suitable. Our villas are self-catered and long stays do receive a mid-stay service, alternatively, for shorter stays additional housekeeping services can be arranged at an additional charge.

When planning your next trip, please do not hesitate to contact us directly to check accommodation rates, availability and special packages.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our resort in the near future.

Kind Regards

Kassandra

We were expecting a four star resort and this is definitely NOT a four star resort. We felt completely misled by its 4 star rating. We were booked for seven nights and left after one for another resort. Our "villa" was dirty, featured several dead and alive cockroaches, the bed sheets were dirty, the curtains were broken, the DVD player was broken, a lizard ran out of the portacot we were provided with, microwave worked intermittently, the remote control was broken with the batteries exposed (very unsafe for our two young children), the fridge only had one shelf, the dishwasher handle was broken, the phone to reception was disconnected...just to name a few is the issues we faced! We were advised by staff after complaining that the state of the villas is dependent on the individual owner as each villa is individually owned and not centrally owned and maintained by the resort itself. Had we known this we would not have booked in the first place.
