We were in Port Douglas for a day and wanted to eat lunch outside. We went to the Marina and found the Lure Restaurant, which has nice, shady outdoor seating with a great view of the boats. We asked for a mineral water and ordered lunch - two orders of "Crisply fried calamari on a bed of rocket salad". When it came (with the waiter's thumb in my salad!) there was nothing crispy about it - in fact the calamari were soggy with nasty-tasteing oil and limp. The salad had some wierd dressing on it and it was served with a triangle of something on top. I tasted it and it turned out to be a deep-fried piece of strong cheese. I would have liked to have been able to spit it out, but felt that I should be polite and swallow it.
We told the waiter (who insisted on calling me "darling") that we could not eat it. He yelled at us and told us we had no right to refuse the food. He took it away and said he would bring us the bill. We had no problem with this as we expected to pay for it anyway. He then returned and yelled at us again for our "bad manners" and told us we could leave the restaurant right away and pay nothing. So we did!
I have never, ever, had an inedible plate of food put in front of me and equally never, ever had such a rude waiter. All he needed to have done was to apologise and take the food away and bring us the bill. Instead we got a torrent of abuse.
My suggestion would be to skip the lures of The Lure and find another place to eat in Port Douglas!!
