Owner description: Frankland Islands Cruise offers visitors the #1 nature based island tour on the Great Barrier Reef. Totally uninhabited, Normanby Island is a national park and the destination for guest on board Frankland Island Cruises. The largest of the Frankland Islands, the island is part coral cay and part continental island, with a healthy and vibrant fringing coral community. The island boasts an abundance of plant and wildlife species, vibrant and colourful rainforest which is met by beautiful, unspoilt beaches and brilliant coral gardens which are home to tropical fish, giant clams and, most notably, green sea turtles. Your day begins with a drive south of Cairns and a morning cruise along the Mulgrave river, giving you the chance to spot a crocodile in the wild. From the mouth of the river your destination on the Great Barrier Reef is already in sight, making it the shortest open sea crossing in North Queensland. With maximum daily passenger numbers of 100, and a high crew to passenger ratio, a Cairns Great Barrier Reef day trip to the Frankland Islands ensures you an intimate, personal and unforgettable tropical Island experience from Cairns and the northern beaches.

A great day on the Frankland Islands! Pristine untouched beaches, no crowds, no other boats, excellent hospitality by a family owned business. An excellent drift snorkel, beautiful water and an abundance of wildlife.

We have just had the most fantastic day out on Franklin Islands Cairns. Having done a number of different Far North QLD island cruises, this one was definitely the highlight! Getting off to a great start with a cruise down the Mulgrave River we arrived at Franklin Islands after only 1 hr. Our day had been well detailed to us by the on board marine biologist who was also able to answer the many questions we had about the Islands and the animals we were expecting to see.
Once on the island we had the most fantastic day snorkelling seeing octopus, turtles, sharks and an array of beautiful fish. We enjoyed a great seafood lunch on the island and were able to canoe and paddle board in the beautiful clear waters around the Island.
Frankland Island Cruise and Dive is fantastic for those people wanting a quick easy ride out to a spectacular private island. The staff were all fabulous and extremely helpful. We would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to enjoy this spectacular part of Far North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef without all the crowds and hassles of long boat rides out.

I just want to add something from a local from Cairns. On Thursday, my overseas friends and some locals went to the Frankland Islands with this Company. We found that the staff and what they did for us was outstanding. I have been on many reef trips, however I had never been here. Unfortunately we had just had a deluge of rain and there was very poor visibility of the coral, even though it was a beautiful day. There were travellers with us that complained that the brochure showed clear waters and beautiful photos of the reef, fish etc. Unfortunately this cannot be the case 365 days of the year. We were all a little disappointed, however the staff were wonderful and tried to make up for the disappointment. I found this trip, overall was very professionally run with exceptional staff and would definitely take my overseas friends again.

We booked Frankland Islands Tour at a discount on bookme.com after much research on TripAdvisor and it definitely paid off. With a toddler (2.5yrs) in tow, our choices of GBR tours are limited. We are not fans of crowded patoons and wanted to be close to an beach. Frankland Islands is the perfect fit! We had an awesome time with our toddler from start to end. The boat can accommodate up to 100 people, we lucked out and only had 16.

We self drove to the meeting point, 45mins south of Cairns. The tour begins with a 30mins river cruise in an air conditioned boat with both indoor and outdoor seatings. Coffee, tea, and cookies were served on the way. Views are nice and if you're lucky you can spot a crocodile.

Once we got to the island, it was straight to snorkeling. Alex, our lovely guide, gave us a tour of the reef and pointed out as many fish and marine life as possible. They made it particularly easy and accommodating for us since our toddler was just floating along on a puddle jumper (we brought it). After 45mins, she got tired and they picked us up in a small boat in the middle of the water and brought us back to shore. This was much appreciated since we didn't want to swim all the way back to shore.

Next up was either a semi submersible or advanced snorkeling adventure ($5/$10 respectively). Again they were accommodating to let my wife and I split the time for the advanced snorkeling. One stayed with our toddler in the submersible and the other went snorkeling. Halfway we switched. It was awesome since we were able to see turtles, stingrays, nemos, other fish, and of course the reef!

After snokoling, the crew laid out an incredible lunch spread. Potato salad, couscous, spinach & feta salad, chicken drumsticks, shrimp, and fruit. We were also able to purchase beer/wine/soft drinks from them as well. The lunch was way above our expectations!

To end the day you can go on a guided tour of the island ($5). The island isn't that big, roughly 15min brisk walk, but the walking tour takes 45min with commentaries. We opted to play and lay on the beach with our little one. My wife was also able to snorkel some more.

Sadly the day had to come to and end. On our boat ride back we were served cake (5 different choices), coffee, and tea. It was a wonderful day and Frankland Island Tours made it a great experience. We highly recommend the tour and especially for families with young kids.

Note that the only gripe we had and nothing that Frankland Island Tours could do, was there are a healthy dose of ants and flies on the island. Pro tip is to keep your stinger suit on and avoid the little pests.

Hello and thank you for your review.

It is disappointing that you had the incorrect information at the time of booking regarding the optional activities on our tour. All tickets include guided snorkelling as well as your protection suit for this time of year and the snorkelling equipment. The other activities are optional and we request a small additional fee for these ($5 each for the island walk and semi sub and $10 for the second guided snorkel - advanced snorkel safari). They can be booked and paid for on the day.

If you can share where you picked up your brochure/did your booking so we can ensure they have the most up to date information and if necessary do some more training for the sales staff.

We recommend speaking to any of our friendly crew should any discrepancies arise on the day - this gives the opportunity for your reservation in our system to be checked for any errors with the booking and optional activities/inclusions.

Kind regards
