We booked at trip to Green Island at about $90 each for two. The price included organized confusion at the pier before we embarked. It involved a cruise to Green Island (return) a glass bottom boat ride or snorkel equipment. Upon arrival we were told we should rent full body lycra suits at $8 each as the "stingers" were a problem. We then went to the beach which is a joke it is so constricted. We arrived early so were able to rent two beach chairs and an umbrella for $40. There were only about 15 or so "sets" available for rent.
There are zero controls over how may people visit the island and it is discouragingly overrun by screaming kids, mobs of tour bus passengers and others who see snorkelling as the opportunity to crawl along the bottom of the ocean floor.
This is a true rip-off by the tour operator and the people who "run" Green Island and sell overpriced and poor quality food.
Avoid this tour operator and Green Island like the plague.

We took the half day (afternoon) tour with no options for $82 pp ($AU). Definitely not worth the price. And the 2 hours on the island was too long. The ride out on the boat was nice. The Island was very crowded. Great adventures advertises exclusive use of the Island pool. It was small, packed and not exclusive. They advertised "exclusive island walk booklet" - it did not exist. Tea and coffee until departure - this lasted for ONE minute or less - unless you ran, forget it. Tons of tourists were standing on the reef (low tide), tourists were chasing you off the beach so they could take pictures. The boat staff were sarcastic!!! The reef has some colorful fish but no colorful coral. Huge disappointment. Not even available seats on the island to rest while waiting to get off. Maybe containing tourists to this cattle car (boat) saves the rest of the reef. Also we could not hear the loudspeaker on the boat and not enough seats on the full boat on the way back. Unless you have no other way to ever see an island or a bit of reef, don't do it.

Took the Green Island and Outer Reef Tour.

The trip across to the island and the reef was really great and the catamaran was clean and well equipped. Plenty of staff onboard too.

Green Island itself was nothing to enjoy. The central area is easily accessible and a handful of shops provide the essentials. The only exception was taking a heli ride off the island and across the Reef which was just incredible.

Back on the boat and another hour trip out to the pontoon at the Outer Reef. Arrival was nothing more than chaos as hoards of people rushed off the boat and onto a cramped pontoon which was just under equipped. Facilities were basic and insufficient for the number of people there.

The underwater viewing gallery was lacking in everything ... nothing to see here. The snorkelling area was just a mass of tourists rushing in and creating chaos as flippers went all over the place and others were scrambling to capture every moment in pics!

The food served was disgusting, tasting very rubbery and served cold. A bizarre menu including curry, rice and potato’s ... for being on the Reef!

Took the semi submersible sub which circles around the area for 20mins but sadly all you see is dead Reef.

A really poor experience and is clearly aimed at mass market tourists rather than an actual experience of the Barrier Reef.

It’s a long trip, for a lot of money which does nothing but completely under deliver.

We did the half day at green island and half at the reef. I wish we could have spent the whole day snorkeling at the reef! Green island is small and we ran out of things to do pretty quick. However the snorkeling platform they have with their glass semi-sub was incredible. The food was also incredibly good and they had great variety. I would definitely do the reef again! Amazing

The staff was incredibly organized and professional from the get-go: I got a personal confirmation email once I booked and on board the boat, everyone was really friendly and helpful. The first boat to Green Island was large and sturdy and felt really spacious. Green Island was pretty but our favorite part of the trip was the pontoon out on the reef so I think if I had the chance to do it again, I would skip the island and go straight to the pontoon. Our boat there was smaller than the first but still felt pretty sturdy and again the staff was overall really nice, especially Ari and Mike. We all enjoyed the buffet lunch with lots of choices so there was something for everyone, and we all loved the semi submersible tour as well. Snorkeling at the GBR was everything we expected and more and the pontoon never felt crowded at all. All in all, a fabulous day out with a fabulous crew!
