A very warm welcome and yummy coffee and scones. All staff were very welcoming. The camp oven dinner on Sat night was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed a look into the history of the family through an interesting movie.

I traveled with Mount Isa lapidary club. I knew it was going to be cold so booked into Gemtree. I also opted for the 'camp-oven' dinner,in fact I had it twice. The meals were great, the Hosts, Kate and Aaron, attentive. After the camp oven dinner they show an very interesting film that has some family history and aspects of the pioneering in the district. I recommend it.

We have just completed a six week trip around a fairly large chunk of Australia and were making a list of our “Biggest Highlights”! Gemtree was at the top of the list for both of us. The camp oven dinner (Wed/Sat) was to die for, the gem
fossicking enjoyable (I now will own several pieces of jewellery containing garnets that I found myself) the people that
we met there memorable! Staff were cheerful and helpful (loved Robyn). We weren’t camped on top of others and the facilities - considering the remote location - were amazing! Loved it - would go back there in a heartbeat!
If you want to partake in the camp oven roast (which we recommend at the modest price of $20/head) it would probably be best to book it in! You definitely don’t want to miss out! Hellen and Ian McIntyre

We stayed 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are excellent and make you feel very welcome. The fossicking was a great experience and we found a lot of garnets. This place is so well run with clean amenities and happy staff. I would highly recommend this place for a desert stay with a difference. We had meals brought to our caravan door which were delicious and we were able to order jewellery made from garnets that we dug out of the dirt ourselves! How special! Thank you everyone for making for being so great!

This property is run by people whose family have been in the area for several generations and they provide a rather special experience a couple of times a week. They show an old film of from the early 1960s that explains their history and a bit about life in the region back then. It’s presented as an after dinner event by the current owner and her personal narration brings the whole thing to life. This is an experience not to be missed if you’re passing along the Outback Way / Plenty Highway.
