Tucked off the side of King St Newtown is this cozy local favourite that serves a whole range of pies. What strikes me most is the sheer range they make fresh everyday, with at least 2 vegetarian options available. We opted for a Southern style pork and apple pie, and a vegetarian lentil pie, with a side of the cheesy loaded fries. Served on steel plates, I actually really love the simplicity of the restaurant. The pies were wonderful! The pastry in particular was wonderfully crispy and flakey, and the fillings were all around delicious. The lentil filling was warm and very well flavoured with ginger, garlic and spices, while the Southern style pie was rich and meaty with hints of sweetness from the apple. The chips were tasty, but nothing out of this world. They use a fairly regular cut of fries, and top it with tasty cheese, cream cheese and some gravy. It's definitely a rich side, perfect for a cold night. Service here is really very friendly and we were served with a smile, and very quickly too! The range of sweet pies here is something you MUST see - there's oreo, twix, key lime and other cheesecakes too, all being sold at really reasonable prices. It's a cheap lunch option, and one that'll fill you up really well too :D

They got some things wrong, which I should say we're very quickly rectified, the biggest of which was the prices shown were incorrect. Pie was OK, but overpriced. Some great customer service after I'd eaten was highly appreciated and I'll probably give this place another go

We tried the sweet pies here one afternoon and thought they were great. While the coffee was very average we decided to go back again a few days later to try the meat pies. On the return visit, we tried a variety of the savory pies and while the pastry was excellent, the contents were bland and disappointing. If you want to try a homemade sauce with the savory pies, that’s an extra $2 on top of he already inflated prices. More importantly, the customer service was very poor. They insisted we pick up our own plates from the counter. We persisted and had the sweet pies again. While they were (once again) very good, the customer service dropped to a new low. There is zero ice cream or cream even offered with the sweet pies. Nothing. One of the waitresses even sprayed us (and our food) with cleaning product while wiping down the table next to us. The seemingly apathetic manager (or owner) was there the entire time - on the phone wrecking any ambience. They lost us on the second visit... Forever.

It amazes me that some people don’t rate this as 5* as it is always consistently excellent. Beware the portions- especially the sweets - are big.

Our tour guide Andy took us to his favorite lunch spot after our 14-hour flight from LAX (11/09/17).
The Pie Tin was a delight! Their space is airy and well lit. The pies were appealing & it smelled really good.
They sell (pot) pies.
Meat eaters, vegetarians and even vegans can enjoy a tasty meal here.
I had a spinach & feta roll with an order of coleslaw that was delish!
Law had a curry veggie pot pie with sweet potato fries.
They also make dessert pies. I had a fahbolous coffee chocolate concoction that was ! Law did not seem impressed with his apple pie .
I hope to visit The Pie Tin again before leaving Sydney.

*** Simone, the cashier/server was pleasant & patient, she took the time to answer all our questions with a smile!
