I have stayed at the Park Hyatt Canberra several times, most recently, twice within the last month. As with some previous traveller comments, I have stayed at various Hyatt properties around the world - in Australia alone, I have been a guest at the Park Hyatt Sydney, Park Hyatt Melbourne, Grand Hyatt Melbourne, Hyatt Sanctuary Cove and Hyatt Coolum. My partner is an even more frequent and loyal guest within the Hyatt chain. From our understanding, the classification of a Hyatt property as "Park" status implies the highest quality and optimum service within the Hyatt brand.

From first entry into the hotel, the lack of service is apparent. Although we did arrive in the evening, there was no doorman, porter or valet service to greet us. That being said, check-in was efficient. The room itself was clean and well presented, and the beds were comfortable. Our one gripe with the room amenities was the small size of the television (approx. 27 inch flat screen TV, one of the smallest TV screens we've found in a Park Hyatt room). We sampled the room service, which was not bad but overpriced. Breakfast in the Ambassador Lounge was the usual continental spread, but we did not like the fact that our plates were not cleared, and the fridge containing cold drinks was locked and we had to request assistance. We enjoyed the Club House facilities. Particularly relaxing was hiring bikes to cycle around Lake Burley-Griffin. The indoor swimming pool was well heated, and quite well-maintained despite its obvious age.

Overall, this Hyatt property has potential to be a relaxing weekend escape. The historic building has a nice ambience. What is lacking is attention to detail, and some customer service training. To cite a some small examples (one from each of our two recent stays): (1) the first time, we did not receive our complimentary wine and fruit; (2) the second time, the smoked salmon for breakfast was served without the standard capers and sour cream. When asked if we could get some, we were told by the staff member there that the policy was to only serve sour cream and capers with the salmon during the evening canape service. While we did get our condiments in the end, we felt that the situation could have been better handled.

We would like to see management lift the performance of its hotel and bring it up to true "Park Hyatt" standards.

Stunning hotel. Stunning rooms. Stunning bathrooms. Impeccable service.

From the styling, to the courtyards, to the Queen's English spoken by staff, this hotel is a luxury choice.

And the food service was the best I've ever tasted!

Stayed here a week and even with President Obama staying we still had fantastic service. Our room and bathroom were huge and kept spotlessly clean. The bed was divine. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Seafood buffet was delicious as was a more casual lunch. Only dissapointment was the lack of outside pool. A pricey hotel but worth it for a treat.

Stayed here as a stop over on the way from Melbourne to Sydney using points from my gold passport account.

The property itself is located within walking distance to the Australian parliament buildings. The building itself is clean and with an interesting architectural design.

Plenty of free parking around the outside of the building although it can be a short walk to the entrance due to the overall sprawling size of the hotel. Check-in was straight forward as you would expect it to be.

Stayed in a King club room and the furnishings were up to the expected standard for a hotel of this caliber. The bathroom was large and had a nice assortment of products to use. Weird off-brand flat screen television, but it worked so that's all that matters. The bed was large and comfortable.

Instead of heading out of the hotel for food, we decided to use the club room privileges and go to the Ambassador room for free alcohol and appetizers. The selection of spirits, beer and wine was quite good. The food quality was also good with a large selection to choose from. Was still a bit hungry afterwards and with the alcohol didn't drive anywhere so we got room service. The meal came promptly and was also of high quality.

There is nothing amazingly special about this place and for leisure, the high nightly rate I wouldn't have paid if I didn't have points. If you're use to travelling on the corporate dime though this place has all the usual perks and is quite comfortable.
