Interesting walk into Australia's political past. Give yourself a couple of hours to truly cover all displays and explore the different rooms open to the public. You can even put on a wig and cape and take a photo to remember your visit. Free entry well worth a visit.

Didn't actually see the gardens- just old Parliament House. The staff were great and the furniture and design were beautiful. Food and gift shop expensive, but We could have spent longer here.

Although not as 'excitin'g as the new Parliament House a visit to the old one is a must for anyone wanting to know how Australia came into being and developed.

Fascinating to be able to sit where former members and senators sat and deliberated and to see how parliament worked in a much more slimmed down manner.

Understanding the past is a key to appreciating the present.

Much more than I expected so make sure you have a couple of hours to explore. This free guided tour gives even greater insights than self exploration so do not miss. The Prime Ministers Office is a time capsule of when Bob Hawke left it in 1988 to move up the hill to the present Parliament House. Many other aspects to absorb so well worth visiting. The Hoi Polloi Restaurant has a fantastic High Tea on the weekends (see separate review).

the gardens were established in 1930s after the members felt the bare ground was a poor substitute for the lovely gardens of the parliament of melbourne. after the parliament moves to new location the gardens were opened too public
