VerticAlp Emosson is the new name for what used to be called "le Parc d'Attractions du Châtelard". In 2013 the old funicular was demolished and a new one installed in its place. The new one meets all current safety etc. regulations.
The first funicular goes from near the station in le Châtelard and carries passengers up to the intermediate point with a slope of 87%. To say this is breathtaking is an understatement! The passengers are then taken along the mountainside on a little train with absolutely stunning views of the entire Mt Blanc range before taking the second (smaller and less steep) funicular to the old Emosson dam.
Once at the dam one can decide whether to go right back down or make the 2 hour hike to the Dinosaur tracks above the higher Emosson dam. On a clear day this hike is excellent and at the end there are some 800 dinosaur tracks in an uplifted rock wall above the path. It is NOT a good idea to do the hike unless the forecast for the day is good as the weather can change quickly up there.
There is a restaurant at the top station of the second funicular and a small "buvette" en route to the dinosaur tracks.
