It's become a bit of a family tradition to spend a few days at Røros hotell roughly every other year between Christmas and New Year. Røros is magical in the winter and we've always had good experiences at the hotel. Of course, with the new pool/spa and the children's play area, this year was the best stay yet!! And there is also a movie theater at the hotel's conference center.
We are a family with two kids, 7 and almost 3 years. We booked a family room, three nights including breakfast and dinner.
We spent daylight time skiing and/or in town, then returned for a swim, playroom or movie before and/or after dinner.
About the food... The breakfast buffet is always fantastic. A good selection of cheeses, cold cuts, pickled herring, mix your own müsli, egg, bacon, fried mushroom and tomato, etc. Freshly pressed orange juice and fresh bread. We like that they always serve a number of local cheeses and cold cuts, etc.
We were always pleased with the buffet dinner. Again, a nice spread of cold foods and salads plus a few different warm dishes, cheese and dessert board with many different selections. Also, a couple of dishes especially for the kids. (My kids loved the homemade fish sticks and lasagne.) Always good quality, never had anything that was really poor (and I have now over the years eaten there many times!)
The rooms are always clean and well kept. We've stayed in newer rooms (newly renovated) and older rooms, with bunk beds or sleep sofa for kids, and have been comfortable and happy in all. My biggest "complaint" this year would be that there were two few hangers or hooks for a family of four with winter coats and snow pants, etc., in the room.
Another thing that might be easy to overlook is that the lounge area in the reception/lobby is quite pleasant. Tastefully decorated with a style that combines both traditional colors/textures with modern Scandinavian design. There is plenty of seating and two fireplaces, at least one of which is almost always lit (usually both in evenings). There is a little bar area off to one side. Sunny during the day and nice lighting in evening.
The only little disappointment this year was that we didn't manage to book a sleigh ride. We have usually been able to do that just a day ahead but this year all the horses/sleighs were booked for the time we were there. We will remember to book sleigh ride early the next time! And, of course, the outdoor hot tub was a decent consolation. :)

Stayed here for one night recently. Røros is a smalltown with a rich historical heritage, well worth visiting. The hotel is placed outside the town centre, about a 10-15 minutes walk from the train station. Basically all expectations for a standard hotel was fulfilled, nice and clean room, good service at the front desk and good, although not fantastic, food (a fixed menu for our seminar group). Didn't have breakfast, so can't comment on that. The hotel also has a pool.

Be aware that Røros can be extremely cold during winter. We were, however, lucky in this respect.

I rate "value" as very good, but note that I am not sure of the price as the stay was prepaid by my employer.

With its mixture of old and new, Røros hotel is a nice and charming surprise. Log fire in the reception, spa downstairs and a friendly staff - you feel welcome. When you get hungry in the evening you may wonder when you can eat what and where - but the food is good, although somewhat expensive. Very nice breakfast!

Excellent breakfast with local food. So nice, I don not think I have had any better breakfast at any hotel. Really nice swimming facilities. The room looked old and with old fashioned colours. So 1990. I do not expect that when I order a Superior room..... But the bathroom was fine, and with nice shampoos etc.

Room Tip: Set heat on 18 degrees (not 20) in winter nights, to avoid noise from the owen

Stayed here for 2 nights with work. Røros is a small place and the location Of the hotel is close to all you need in Røros. Just out Of the hotel we went jogging up into the mountains...stunning.

This hotel is a familie owned old hotel and not a designhotel. But who cares when the service given and the food served is so good!!! Go back at least to Explore the food;)
