“Wow!”

My partner and I got married in Bakewell at the beginning of our stay, and had the cottage booked for the entire week following (which was Christmas week). There was ourselves and our 3 children (9, 3 and 2) and we all loved it! We were so sad to leave, as everything was just so lovely! The views are amazing, the log fire was constantly roaring, and the owner Karin, had thought of everything. On the days it snowed us in, lol, we had board games, films and books to read, and our kids loved the big, deep bath! The main bedroom had the biggest bed in ever, and we can't wait to come again! To top it off, the boxing day 7 inch snow made it perfect. We ARE coming back!! :)

“Just wonderful”
Reviewed 13 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We stayed here Friday to Sunday as we were attending a wedding in Bakewell. I can honestly say I've not stayed in such a lovely cottage as this before. It's very spacious and there is absolutely everything you need there (even towels and bedding). It's spotlessly clean as well. It's ideally situated and the views from the conservatory are just lovely. Karin, the owner, let us take our 4 small dogs which we are eternally grateful for (not many would be so gracious). The Lathkill Hotel is 100 yds away and their food is lovely. Karin has thought of everything. The furnishings are lovely - the double bedroom has a king size bed and is en-suite with a lovely roll top bath! The other bedroom is very large and has a queen size bed plus 2 bunk beds. There is also a shower room. Just perfect and we will most certainly return next year hopefully. Well done Karin and thank you.

“Really great place with reasonable prices and excellent views”
Reviewed 2 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We really enjoyed our time at Mt. Pleasant Cottage. The owner was really good to work with. The cottage is quaint and in a great village, and with great views. We literally walked out the front door, down Lathkill Dale, and over the fields to Haddon Hall (highly recommended). It was a highlight of the trip for our kids. I'd definitely recommend others to stay at Mt. Pleasant Cottage. We especially liked that the owner let us pay by the night, since we weren't staying an entire week.

“Lovely little hide-away in the South Peaks”

We stayed here for 5 nights and we weren't really sure what to expect from it but all in all it was a lovely cottage that surpassed our expectations.

The rooms are all spacey, none more so than the master bedroom which is very airy. Word of caution - the windows are nice and big (for the views) but if you're like us and require blackout curtains you may need to follow our lead and use the spare blankets as second curtains!

There were so many blankets and towels that this wasn't a problem and meant that it was a very well equipped cottage. All the kitchen was full of anything you could ever want and more with one exception - no vegetable peeler that worked. Having said that we got one from the co-op and left it there so there should be one now!

Myself and my partner stayed upstairs in the master and prefer showers which was located 2 floors below us, so we had to do towel dashes, but other than that we couldn't fault the cottage itself.

The garden and the conservatory were the real reward of this cottage; the view was fantastic and the conservatory meant we could enjoy it even when the weather got temperamental. It also allowed our two dogs somewhere to stretch their legs, although truth to be told they mostly lay asleep in the sun after being tired out from walks up Mam Tor and the like.

Location-wise it is very good for the southern area of Derbyshire but about 20-30 mins from Castleton/Hope/Edale area where a lot of the more adventurous walks are. That's not to say there are no walks in this area, as there are many and very nice too, but if you are wanting some long hilly walks expect a 20min drive to them. A bonus of the location is that it is so close to Bakewell that you do have access to a decent Co-op store and all their cake shops (etc).

Top tip: We picked up the keys (very painlessly) at 7:30 and had arranged a online grocery delivery to the cottage for 8-9pm so had all the food delivered to us for a minimal charge, meaning we only had to pick up odd bits through the stay. I'm not sure if all the big 4 deliver to this area, but the one we used (Sainsbury's) did and made it an even more painless check-in period for us.

Would we return? Without a doubt - hard to imagine a more cosy, homely and complete cottage for such a decent price.
