Recently visited the hotel and just thought id be positive in difficult times

The Junior suite we had was very big and very clean. Unfortunately the room was a little dated in places and you sense some of the hotel has been upgraded and other areas not.
The food was excellant. Decent sized portions and the breakfast in particular was good with alot of choice.
The staff though make this hotel. Every person we dealt was positive, polite and couldn't do enough for you. Id like to mention Hugo in the restaurant who was very attentive.
All in all very good!

Booked basic club room which was basic but clean and bed comfortable. Went for an afternoon swim in the wonderful pool and a jacuzzi. Included in the price of £105.00 was a 2 course festive meal and breakfast. The evening meal was absolutely superb .. between us we chose soup and pate for starters, Turkey and Dingley Dell Pork for mains and then decided to finish off with an extra course of Christmas pudding ... all of which was absolutely delicious. Service was excellent and our Waiter, Hugo, was very attentive and professional. Despite the restaurant being full in the morning, a fantastic breakfast was served promptly. The Hotel Lobby and nearby areas looks amazing with many Christmas Trees and tasteful decorations. Very good value for a wonderful break. Would recommend.

Room tip: Golf course views are lovely

The hotel has been decorated so lovely for Christmas, really recommend coming to see it.
Hotel room wise - Beds are always lovely, room tidy. I think not providing any extra bath products in a standard room is quite unusual, especially for a more upmarket hotel. Would have been nice to have had bath gel and creams rather than using the body wash provided attached to the wall.
Dinner - absolutely 10/10 for the food, kudos to the chef. Every meal I had was amazing and can't wait to come back for more.
Overall really good stay, would recommend to colleagues and friends.
Staff on reception always so lovely and helpful too.

My husband and i decided to book a 2 night stay in a golf de luxe room at the SBN for our wedding anniversary last week.
I will start with the good :
All the staff we came across (bar one receptionist ) were helpful and courteous (especially Jasmine our waitress at dinner)
The spa looks good ,the gym is well equipped and the pool a good size with comfortable loungers by the pool side
I also had a really nice hour long Decleor facial with a lovely beautician called Misha (apologies to her if that is not the correct spelling)At £69 i thought that was good value considering i paid £90 recently for a facial at another spa hotel!
The grounds/golf course are well maintained and are vast giving you a vast expense of lush rolling countryside view from most of the public areas of the hotel.
We had a funny towel display in our room in the shape of a heart , nice touch for our anniversary
The bad:
We got quite a bit of attitude from the young receptionist who checked us in
I simply queried the fact we were asked to pay for our stay upon arriving which we never had been asked before in hotels we have stayed atand since SBN had my card details , didnt seem necessary !The receptionist could have handled the matter a lot better instead of being quite argumentative with me
The sports bar is dated and drab and could do with a refresh
The service at breakfast was painfully slow.We understand extra measures were put in place due to Covid but all i wanted for breakfast was a couple of croissants. That would have taken 1 mn to get from the kitchen but got them after my husband had finished his cooked breakfast as you have to wait to be served at your table
The food overall for breakfast lunch and dinner was just average (except the croissants at breakfast that were delicious)nothing special (we had a much better meal the 2nd night at the Crown inn in the village and i believe there are a good selection of really good restaurants not far from the hotel.
We didn’t really mind that the room was not cleaned during our 2 night stay but didnt quite expect to be handed a pack of loo rolls at reception when we said we had ran out though!

The ugly :
Had to take pictures as to just how bad some of the fixtures in our so called “de luxe” room were
The chair by the table and mirror was so worn it looked like it had been salvaged from a rubbish tip...all the leather was worn exposing the filling underneath, not shabby nor chic just downright ugly!
The bathroom needs a total refit ie mould all over the shower screen , all along the corners of the tiles , dirty yellow old radiator and dirty limescaled taps that haven’t been polished for some time!
The shower fixtures are dated and there’s more water coming out of the tap when you try to have a shower than out of the shower head!Hubby is a plumber and was not impressed by the standard of our bathroom for a 4 star hotel.
We told all these issues upon checking out but the receptionist though apologetic didn’t seem too concerned.
Due to all these reasons ,we wouldn’t return as i believe they are other hotels of the same class that provide a better service ,istandard of food and accommodation too...
