Avinurme Woodworking Centre is the only place in Estonia where you may see wooden handcraft making in process and take part of it.
This is a lovely place for a stop and meal. You may have a cup of coffee or a good lunch. You can see a big variety of wooden handcraft and buy some souvenirs to take home.
Absolutely must have to visit in neighbourhood!!

Visited the Avinurme Woodworking Centre on a business trip. The Centre has a small but perfectly formed cafe and sells beautifully produced handmade Estonian wood craft. I purchased several items for the Centre as did my collegues, mine including a wooden reindeer on wheels look great in my home

Located on the Via Hanseatica - the former trade route that linked Riga (Latvia) with St Petersburg (Russia) passing through Valga and Tartu (southern Estonia) and Narva (north-eastern Estonia).

Comprehensive centre displaying and selling wood craft on three floors - lower ground (craft skills); ground (shop and cafe); upper (function area). While most of the ware is kitchen/dining-room oriented there is a fair quantity of child oriented toys - some being quite complex - like the 'JCB' complete with wooden hydraulics.
Stocked-up with gifts for UK relatives - local woods have that wonderful characteristic of being light-weight and are excellent value for money.

Not exactly close to either of Estonia's main tourist/urban centres and no where near Estonia's rail-network:
155 km from Tallinn ( approximately 2 to 2.5 hours drive).
82 km from Tartu (approximately 1.25 hours drive)

This is one of the stores that I'd wish to find in every country. Original and traditional local handicraft available as authentic travel memories. Most of the things are kitchen-ware related and from wood or tablecloth, baskets, etc. Definitely stop by when you're around, I was (even as an Estonian) very positively surprised. You can also buy/eat there some sandwiches/cakes and seemed like that for bigger groups also lunch can be organized. And there's another post about the same place with more pictures - Avinurme Handicraft Centre.
