Shame it was only for 2 nights

Review of The Sarojin
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Oct 2012
One of the mistakes we made on our 2 week trip to Thailand was to only book The Sarojin for 2 nights. Having read some of the negative reviews on this site and having just come home from this resort, I cannot understand the negativity. The Sarojin was an incredible place.

We were collected by Keam from Krabi Marina and he was incredibly friendly and informative upon our 2 1/2 hour drive up and it was very relaxing. Check-in was smooth and easy and our room was amazing. The bathroom was exactly as I would like my own house at home, the shower and bath were just top drawer. Not to mention the size of the Suite and with the outdoor bath on the deck area. Free internet in the room is always great too when you are away!

The pool area is equipped with some great areas to relax in and out of the sun and the set up is very modern and of a high standard.

On our first day we meandered our way around and had lunch down by the beach. They were setting up for crab and beer night so we were a little in the way but it was no problem, we were well looked after by the staff, who were very friendly. After lunch we cleaned up and went down to cocktails by the beach where Dawid, resort manager, gave a little talk to the guests about the resort which we found great. We then stayed on for crab and beer night, while a little expensive, was very enjoyable and the dining area had a great atmosphere to it.

The following day, my wife and I went to the spa and I got a deep tissue sports massage which I found incredible. Very relaxing indeed. Later that evening we hoped on the shuttle bus and went into town to visit the market and a local restaurant. Koh Lak is quite a busy spot and seems to be full of tourists and ex-pats.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort. The rooms are very modern and extremely comfortable, the facilities are top quality and the staff are extremely friendly.

We stayed at the Sarojin sometime ago now but have only just got round to writing about it. My wife and I stayed there for 8 nights and had a wonderful time. The rooms were outstanding and the peace and quiet was second to none....you can literally hear a pin drop around the pool area! This is one of the reasons why we spent most of our time at the pool....it is the perfect place to unwind. We organised a couple of day trips which all went well and I would certainly recommend the 'James Bond' island trip. The actually island is a bit tacky and touristy but getting there (plus the magnificent lunch) is well worth the money. The food at the hotel is outstanding and yes it is expensive but in my opinion well worth it. For a cheaper evening then just catch the free mini bus into Khao Lak which is a much smaller (and more civilised) version of Phuket. Probably the only slight downside is the beach which isn't the best in the area but it wouldn't stop me going back again in the future. Excellent hotel.

We visited in the rainy season (knowingly, I might add!), and even though the weather was not the most cooperative, we still had a great experience. The airport transfers are great, after the frenetic crowds it was fantastic to climb into a comfortable vehicle for a private transfer with towels and refreshments offered. The resort's choice of well appointed 4x4 vehicles for guest use is very sensible given the conditions on some roads in the rainy season.

We stayed in a pool residence and were not disappointed. We loved the open bathroom, a great deal of thought went into the design there, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The pool was very well maintained, and the sala provided protection from the brief moments of sun (which when it did emerge was very strong!), and the more frequent cloudbursts. The open areas and main pool are great, with some beautiful gardens and water features.

The main restaurant was very good (anything with local Andaman lobster was an instant hit), with some innovative dishes showcasing local produce, and the smaller beach restaurant had some excellent local specialities as well. My only small criticism of the entire stay was that perhaps some of the local food options should be a little more authentic. We felt that although the essence of the dishes was there, they lacked the flavour punch we associate with good Thai cooking. I certainly don't think that this was an issue with the chefs, as all of the meals were excellently prepared and of high quality, I rather think that this may be the result of a policy to make the dishes more accommodating to Western palates. While it is important to cater to your guests, I think that it is also important to allow the food to shine and reflect the authentic character. Sometimes a challenge is worthwhile!

Service at all stages of our stay was impeccable. The staff were all, without exception, kind, polite, helpful and efficient. All requests were happily accommodated.

We opted to go on a number of excursions locally, and to Phang Nga Bay. These were not as cheap as you might perhaps find from a 3rd party tour operator, but given that you had the individual use of a driver, guide, and vehicle, the expense is well worth it. The guides are knowledgeable and good company. Extra touches, like towels, snacks, drinks and a brilliant lunch complete with white linen makes you feel quite special. We especially enjoyed the local life excursion. Often when staying at a luxury resort you can feel disconnected, you could be staying anywhere. This excursion gave us a great snapshot of the local area and economy, and was extremely interesting. Definitely worth considering in addition to the more mainstream activities.

This was a great place to stay, allowing you to enjoy either the myriad of local activities, a romantic getaway, or a relaxing spa break, or even a combination of all three.

Room tip: The pool residences are great, it's fantastic to have a secluded private pool.

Well stayed here for 8 nights after 4nights in Bangkok with a relaxing break needed and wow did we get it!! This hotel and grounds are just stunning.
We stayed in the pool residence which was awesome, room really big and stylish, and pool outside really good,!,
The staff are so friendly can't do enough for you at all times however big or little the request maybe.
The hotel is out of the way, and 15mins in a shuttle bus (provided by the hotel) away from centre of Khao lak, so it's defo a time to yourselves holiday.
You get free water in your room everyday which is a brucie, breakfast loads to choose from, the edge restaurant really nice but paying uk prices so expensive for Thailand but what u expect your in a 5 star hotel so if you want cheaper food go to Khao lak centre or there's a couple restaurants along the beach which are a lot cheaper.
The trips also really expensive but are catered for a private experience not shoved on a bus with loads of other people so you paying for the VIP treatment.
We did the elephant trek and bathing through the hotel which was 2750 baht each, yes expensive but well worth it we had a guide who came with us and followed on foot throughout the trek with all things at like rain coats, water taking photos of us with our camera while we on the elephant and giving us information to about the elephants and the surrounding area and local customs but also managing not to be to full on and let us just enjoy the experience, so we got photos no one else could of as they both on the elephant with no guide there so to us well worth the extra.
I got to wrap this up as a could go on for ages as this hotel blew us away just stunning loved every day there and would recommend without hesitation. Just go and enjoy this place as much as we did.

Stayed here for two weeks and had a very laid back, enjoyable time. The hotel is on a truly wonderful beach that just goes on and on in either direction. We stayed in a suite and had good views of the grounds as all suites are on the second floor. A good size bedroom and sitting room with a few quirky points. There are no doors to seperate the bathroom from the bedroom so could be fun with more than two staying in the room. Liked it though.
The grounds are not massive but are very well kept and a pleasure to walk around. There are two restaurants, Western and a Thai close to the beach. It has been said the food is expensive here. When compared to five star hotels its not really, trouble is compared to the great beach front restaurants (3) next door it is. These are great and right on the beach.
You will find that the hotel managers are very hands on with customer service and like to know that you are having a good time and lead the team from the front. This promotes a very good service so well done Dawid, Kade and the team.
The trips that they run are expencive compared to prices outside the hotel but i would say they do it very well and we had a great half day out with King who was really fun to be with as well as being good at his job.
Must comment on the breakfast. Its all cooked to order and of very good quality, one of the best i have had around the world. Gold star for that.

Room tip: The suites would be my first choice

All in all, we had a wonderful stay. The weather was against us somewhat, with 4 out of our 7 days being taken over by heavy rainfall. On the 3 days with good weather however, we enjoyed watching the staff sports day, a cycling trip to the nearby waterfall and of course making use of the wonderful pool facilities.

The suite we stayed in was beautiful - whoever designed the rooms did a fantastic job.

The staff were excellent. They are obviously well looked after by management and are all very passionate about their work. Everyone was very polite, welcoming and genuinely seemed to be interested in whether we were enjoying our stay. Not like in some hotels where it comes across quite 'fake'.

The spa was fantastic. We used the spa facilities extensively, and every single treatment was amazing.

The restaurants were also extremely good. The breakfast, the 5 course degustation dinner, the Seafood BBQ and the Asian tasting session were all fantastic, and the Thai food cooked in the Edge restaurant is by far the best Thai food we have ever eaten anywhere in the world. And we eat a lot of Thai food! Breakfast was great, and you can opt to have it whenever you want, so feel free to have a lie in rather than rushing to the restaurant to squeeze in breakfast before they close.

Great hotel, highly recommended.
