We have stayed in may Riu hotels throughout the world, even Gran Canaria and so I will be truthful here and say, it was okay. Check in good, very helpful and informative. The room on 5th floor was lovely, very clean and spacious. Now we come to other areas and starts to drop a bit. Food was, in my eyes, okay only, not as you would expect from Riu. For example no food themed nights or chances for chefs to show their quality with show dishes. True, nearly everyone will eat a burger or piece of chicken and some fries but somehow it just needed more in my eyes.
Drinks are very good, named brands although I wish they would not have just one beer, Amstel, add another even if it is local Tropical or even chuck an Estrella in for good measure. And the white and red wine is on tap so I will say no more, we had one glass and binned it and bought some bottles from supermarket for fridge in room.
Outside areas very nice but round pools do need a tidy up and I know that is down to the public picking their own mess up but did notice litter from previous day still there the next day, minor but just a point.
As i said previous, we have stayed in a few Riu's but I have to say that if the staff, that are very good by the way and work hard, took their badges off, then it would be just a normal 3-4 star hotel not the Riu standard.
Seems a bit scathing I know, but these are not a cheap holiday and even though it was an enjoyable week, it is not one we would jump at to return to.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms seem to get more sun. Get there early for a bed by infinity pool.

We have visited this hotel in the past, but not since the refurbishment. The place had started to get a bit 'tired' but is now fantastic. The pool areas and entertainment area outside are wonderful. We had 2 weeks of relaxation with perfect weather, food and drink. We would definitely recommend it.

We have visited this hotel 6 times and have always raved about it. Unfortunately this visit was a bit disappointing. As usual reception staff were great, as were the bar staff and room staff. Unfortunately the waiting staff let the hotel down. It looked as if the number of waiting staff had been reduced and meant service in the dining areas was sporadic to say the least.

The entertainment was good and the animation team excel themselves with entertaining the guests although Eduardo who is in charge of the team could take a leaf out of their book and interact with the guests instead of walking around without acknowledging anyone.

It is a lovely hotel with lots of positives but we were disappointed this time.

allways take fleece our thick sweaters, it gets cold on evening, the reception in hotel ,with sliding doors makes reception into a wind tunnel, But this is nothing to do with the hotel, the hotel itself is spotless, and comfortable, the entertainment team work tirelessiy in the day time, allways getting people to join in , can,not comment on evenings entertainment as melonaras is a people watchers paradise, all in all a great holiday , but please remember we went in febuary and i have just got round to writing this, after looking for 2019 winter break.

Just returned from our third visit to this hotel in two years. Just as good as the previous visits. Friendly helpful staff, good clean rooms comfy beds free tea,coffee facilities freezer with soft drinks restocked every two days free safe. Food was amazing plenty of choice. Entertainment ok but not as good as previous visits. Dined in the Grill restaurant a number of nights. Must give a mention to the TIU rep Janice who is a fountain of knowledge and goes the extra mile to help you. Will we be returning again maybe but we would like to try other RIU hotels in the Canerias
