Reviewed 29 July 2011

We have visited Palm Beach twice, once some 10 years ago before its fairly recent major re-furbishment and then in September 2010. It is now exceedingly smart and modern but we almost preferred the old layout of the pool area as now there are straight ranks of sunbeds all cramped together, although it was nice that there is now a seperate childrens pool well away from the main one! The towel service by the pools was excellent.

The spa area and fitness equipment seemed all right from a distance, but did become a bit of an informal 'gay' club area of the hotel grounds.

The food was quite good, but not as good as it used to be in the old days. The buffet was better but they cancelled one of them for some reason during our week there. A great pity.
Breakfast was very good. As others have said the bird problem at meal times is not nice for a 5 star hotel. Perhaps they could tether a couple real of birds of pray nearby to keep the area clear of pests (and the associated health risks). Even in a 4 star Riu we used in Portugal recently they managed to contain such a problem with three or four large 'false' birds of pray on the roof which swivelled in the wind very effectively, but real ones would be a great guest attraction particularly for the children.

The general manager and head chef really should have dinner at the nearby Riu Grand Palace to observe and experience the quality of food and presentation there, although it must be admitted that many of their rooms are not up to the Seaside Palm Beach standard. It is better value for money to compensate for this.

As others have reported the bar and wine prices were extremely expensive and only served to encourage the regular use of nearby supermarkets and a different sort of room service to that which the hotel management might like guests to use!

Whilst the bedrooms in the basic grade were very smart they had awful outlooks and it cost considerably more to have a pool view, or distant seaview from the higher floors. All rooms only had showers in them, good ones I acknowledge, but some of us prefer the provision of a full sized bath as well. The room was however always kept spotlessly clean.

Some reviews have critical of some staff members which was not our experience at all. In particular the Reception staff were charming and efficient as were the delightful German trainee managers who followed the example of the exceptional lady General Manager who did not hesitate to clear tables themselves at busy times, all very impressive. One person, who whilst seemingly trying hard to please, did really grate was the so-called male Customer Relations Manager. He pranced around the place full of energy and promise, but always failed to seat guests in their order of arrival to dinner, and the system was not in place to organise this better despite a number of customer suggestions. They would not take table bookings either.

All in all a nice area of Gran Canaria with a nice sandy beach nearby and a very smart hotel, but more like a 4.5 star to my mind, and very expensive if you want a good view.

Room Tip: Pool view essential (at high cost), or a high floor seaview

Dear Seaside Palm Beach Guest,

Thank you for your comments on Tripadvisor.

We are delighted to hear that this is your 2nd holiday at the Seaside Palm Beach and that you have been impressed by the refurbishment of the hotel since your last stay.

The grounds of the Seaside Palm Beach***** are extensive and afford guests a variety of spacious areas set amidst the shade of the palm trees, two large pool areas, the separate children’s pool area and the Spa & Wellness area. For this reason we are surprised by your comments as we have always been praised by guests for the comfort and luxury of our sunbathing areas.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast buffet together with the á la carte menu which is served four nights per week in combination with the renowned Seaside B.B.Q. and buffet which is served three nights per week. We find this combination ensures our guests a five star service, although on some occasions this can be subject to changes.

The Seaside Palm Beach***** is located in a protected area which is a nature reserve and hence the abundance of birds around the hotel. Many visitors enjoy observing the large variety of indigenous species that can be discovered close by.
The pigeons are of course an on-going battle in many seaside locations, as you say you have also experienced this on a recent holiday to Portugal. Thank you for your suggestions as to how other establishments have endeavoured to combat this problem, we will most certainly take these suggestions into consideration in addition to all the other measures that we take which include the constant cleaning of all outdoor areas and keeping food covered.

With regards to the rooms: in all hotels there are different room categories and rooms on higher floors with superior views all of which are at a supplement; we are very gratified to read that you found the décor, cleanliness and room service to be of an extremely high standard.

Thank you kindly for the praise of our staff, we are very proud of the service and attention that we strive to provide to our guests throughout their stay with us.

Kind regards,

Rocío Cibrán

i absolutely love the interior of this hotel and its generously sized rooms , its the first hotel i have stayed at the had enough coat hangers and enough wardrobe space bliss.
The food and the service was superb. The staff friendly and helpful .
I took my 15 year old son here , their was,nt a great deal for him to do , but thanks to wi fi , and a lap top he did keep himself occupied,
My only complaint was the cost of bottled water at the hotel 2,75 euros per half litter around the pool and the restaurant , and 3,00 euros from the mini bar , we were drinking 5 lt a day between us so a trip to the local super market was a priority, ignoring the hotel policy of no drinks to be brought in from the outside, i assumed this referred to alcoholic drinks, not soft drink,s.
But still a lovely hotel and would be great for a girls holiday as the spa treatments were bliss.

Dear Seaside Palm Beach Guest,

We wish to thank you for your comments on Tripadvisor.

We are delighted to read that you enjoyed the interior décor of the hotel created by Alberto Pinto and that you were especially satisfied with our service and our cuisine.

Two weeks ago, we initiated our Seaside Palm Beach Teenager Programme which offers our young guests different activities to get to know each other. The animation staff contacts the teenagers directly and brings them together. The activities offered in this programme depend on the number of teenagers staying in our hotel. We offer a variety of sports activities, such as beach volleyball, football, water games and many more, depending on the teenagers’ preferences. Furthermore, we have a Wii-Nintendo at our guests’ free disposal.

The prices for our drinks are adapted to the common standards of most five star hotels and are calculated with customary prices.

It was a pleasure having you at the Seaside Palm Beach and we look forward to welcoming you again on future holidays.

Kind regards,

Rocío Cibrán

Stayed from 13th to 21st July 2011. Great hotel, always clean and tidy.
Due to a late flight we arrived at 4am to which we were told there was a cold platter in the room as we had been too late for dinner and the bar services. Excellent touch.
We spent our several days by the pool at the hotel which was great. The larger pool is clean and large enough to have a good swim about in. There is also a smaller adult (14+ years) salt water pool with various massage jets. Both are great.

The hotel staff service was Excellent!!! Every staff member we spoke to or saw were professional, friendly and did their very best to help. It was my birthday and my girlfriend had been in contact with the hotel via email to organise a cake during dinner. The staff were great, the entertainment sang and the cake was great. We had some and gave the rest to the staff to say thanks!
ALL staff were great as mentioned but we particularly would like to thank Jork (high service levels and professionalism), Lopez (our waiter on most evenings & cut my cake) and Pino (kept our room immaculate). Thank you!

The food at the hotel is also excellent. There is a buffet barbeque 3 times per week which has a huge variety of food and is cooked to your taste. The set dinners were also a superb standard. We did venture out of the hotel on one night for dinner but this was simply for a change of scenery.

On our check out day our bus pick up to the airport was at 2300. The front desk staff had organised the rooms so that nobody was checking into our room that day, thus meaning we could use the room for the day at our leisure and enjoy the day.

We can definitely recommend this hotel and will be going back!

Room Tip: The pool view rooms are worth the upgrade.

We stayed in the Palm Beach for 21 nights and were impressed with the hotel and staff. The facilities were excellent for both adults & children with a seperate swimming pool for the kids and also a small heated pool for the smaller kids. There was a very good kids club and play park beside the kids pool which kept our 7 year old son happy every day as there were plenty of kids to play with. Most of the guests were German and very friendly towards us. The hotel staff were very nice and and were always willing to give us what we asked for and nothing was a problem for them. The hotel has a seperate heated salt water pool for Adults only and another larger pool for both adults & Kids. Our bedroom was on the 7th floor overlooking the sea and was spotless when we arrived and cleaned every morning , towels were changed twice a day and the beds were turned down every night and a chocolate sweet on each pillow.. No matter what we asked the staff for they arranged it with no problems. The gym was well kitted out with quality machines etc and beside the Spa which was really fantastic. The food was fantastic and of 5 star+ quality but not really suited for kids as it was sometimes a little slow between courses and a bit to grand to be eating 4 times a week. 3 nights a week there was a barbeque which was really good with lots of choice.
The music at night was nice and relaxing at the pool bar but not that good inside the main bar.
Overall this is one of the best 5* hotels I have ever stayed in, it is very relaxed for a 5* hotel and not at all snobby and very child friendly, and the staff are fantastic.
We had the best holiday ever in this hotel and will definetly come back next year.

On arrival late evening, we where greeted by hotel staff & taken to our room which was wonderful, we were able to have an evening meal & where once again greeted by restaurant staff who where very attentive, as they where throughout our stay.
The room was very clean & the maid changed the sheets & towels everyday. spotless.
The location could not have been better, 2mins & you are on the beach & very near to shops, bars&restaurants. The beach is cleaned daily.
If you want a wild time with lots of nightlife DONT GO THERE. but if you want a holiday that is relaxing with decent evening entertainment, try it. The majority of the guests are german, but mixed with other europeans all well polite & well dressed. Great holiday,

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor as the views are better
