“Yes it’s falling apart, but...”

Centro Comercial Faro 2
Ranked #17 of 18 Shopping in Maspalomas

I think it’s unfair to give this place a bad review because the handful of restaurants left behind are lovely!

Yes it’s falling apart and only a few places remain open. Yes it’s like something from the walking dead and you wouldn’t be that surprised if a zombie appeared and took a chunk out of your arm. However the food I ate here was probably the nicest food I ate during my 9 days in maspalomas.

The place is clearly dying due to the newer state of the art shopping centre near the beach, plus the yumbo centre in Playa del ingles. If you’re staying at the self catering places nearby though, it’s a great place to walk over to for lunch. The restaurants offer fresh fish and meats, and the staff are welcoming and friendly. The supermarket is well stocked and reasonably priced too.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to visit this place, but if you’re staying within walking distance of it, pop over for lunch!

Wow do you have to give 1 star
This place is falling to pieces literally
Parts have been closed off due to it literally falling apart and cracking
There is a supermarket and a few restaurants but the view from the restaurants is that of all the locals walking there dogs around the waste ground waiting for the dogs to crap

If you have the misfortune of coming across this eyesore I would advise you keep walking and don’t eat down wind of the dogs play ground

So the positive:

* well stocked supermarket
* delicious steak houses (recommend Broncemar II)
* close to hotels
* reasonable price
* great hospitality from shop owners

* in need of investment - shopping centre is in disrepair following the recession and lots of shops have closed down.
* slightly errie feeling on first viewing.

This shopping centre has been hit really hard by a lack of investment which is clear to see. However, the shops, restaurants and bars have been lovingly maintained and are clean and tidy establishments.

I would say if I was staying in Playa Del Ingles etc I wouldn't travel specifically for Faro 2 in its current state. However if in Maspalomas area around Faro 2 I would highly recommend paying a visit to the shops and bars open here.

I think it's important the receive the support of tourists and locals to help the remaining businesses keep a float. In turn they will be provided with great food, drinks and hospitality!

I would recommend the remaining establishments to friend or family!

* please note to go inside Faro 2 rather than judt seeing the businesses on the outside. We nearly did this and would have missed the best restaurant we ate at on our holiday (see above)

Bike hire company (Great cost and quality condition bikes)
Supermarket (hyperdino)
5 restaurants (catering for British, European, Mediterranean)
Souvenir shop (beach towels etc - cheap)

Apart from the one supermarket and the few shops still desperately clinging on to memories of their once-glorious past, there is nothing to do here but bask in the decay.

Since Maspolomas is devoid of any interesting buildings, this is actually a really nice place to take pictures of, all things considering. We are familiar with scenes of post-apocalyptic decay from movies and games, but it's rare to actually find a place that looks like it's straight from the set of Max Max and is still mostly open to the public.

If you're a fan of things like The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, Terminator, Mad Max or Children of Men, definitely check this place out. Wear a hardhat though.

We used to love going to this unusual design centre a few years ago until our latest visit when we found the place absolutly devoid of anything worth a taxi fare. Even the taxi driver did not say that the place was just about empty of shops and he made a fast getaway after taking his fare. There was huge lumps of concrete missing everywhere you looked. It looked liked a ghost town with perhaps only a half dozen units open.DONT WASTE TIME,EFFORT OR MONEY. EVEN PLAYA DEL INGLES IS NOT AS ROUGH AS THIS PLACE.
