A fabulous dinner at Molskroen last week! Every dish exquisite, but in particular, the main meat course was absolutely brilliant, the best veal chop we have ever had! Prepared right in front of our table by the new amazing head-chef Steffan Villadsen. We received really great service, in beautiful surroundings and with a classic Nordic 'hyggelig' atmosphere which lifted the spirits tremendously on this very cold spring evening. We had the 'Spring Menu' which was a great composition of courses. If you are after a great Nordic cuisine experience in every sense of the word Molskroen is the place to go! :-)

This was our first experience of Michelin starred food and delighted with its inventiveness. The staff were attentive without being obsequious and the whole evening was winderful. The food was great of course.

As I stayed at the hotel I decided to eat in their brasserie. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable about both food and the wines. While waiting for my dinner I was not given the normal bread and butter to munch on , but some wonderful homemade crispy stuff with spices aioli for dipping. I have navel had anything like it anywhere. I chose a steak and it was cooked to perfection the way I ordered it. One side was included, and I chose homemade fries. You could order other sides as well, like salads. The meat was accompanied by a very good sauce, but I wish they had included just a little veggies on the plate. The pieces of meat were kind of lonely at the plate and could have looked a bit happier with a couple of tomato pieces and a little green. For dessert I chose pears Belle Helene, which was an advanced version with chocolate mousse, hot choc sauce, pear, of course, and ice cream nested on some chocolate crisp crumbles. Wonderful!

The Molskroen restaurant is a great place to have a fine diner.
We chose to take a Molskroen Signature Menu with three-course menu.
If you want, you can go for a TEN!!!-course menu.

This Signature Menu has two specific conditions.
1. Per course, you can take whatever you want. So if you want a main dish as first course, a starter as second and a starter as third etc...., (depending on the number of courses you take…… ) it's up to you.
2. Everybody at the table gets the same: so if it a three course-diner, it’s a three-course dinner for everybody and per course everybody takes the same..
So before you order, there is quite some negotiating going on.
Since we were only a party of two, we ordered within an hour (☺):

1st course: Pocheret og glaseret kongekrabbe with drueagurk, frisk agurk og sauce Blanquette
2nd course: Fasanbryst "en crepin" with foie gras, løg og sauce på karamelliserede druer
3rd course: Lasagne la Bagatelle, discovery æbler, chokoladecreme Anglaise og vanilleis

While discussing our order, three different types of bread (bread from fermented wheat, Manitoba bread balls and a brioche with cheese and bacon if I remember well) were served with 2-different types of dairy topping: a typical Danish butter and a special mix of butter, butter-milk and olive(?) oil. It all tasted great, although it took some time to value the savoury brioche.

We really enjoyed the crab. The dish consists of a grilled pickle, a lovely sauce with little balls of cucumber with the soft and tasty crab… it was surprising and delicious.

The pheasant and fois gras formed an almost perfect combination of flavours and impressions. A great reduction of veal-stock completed the dish. If you want some criticism, one could say that it was a notch to salt.

The Lasagne la Bagatelle looked great and was OK…

The staff did a great job. We did not choose the wines per bottle, but asked the waiter to advise and serve. He chose a Riesling for the starter. It was a nice Riesling, not very outspoken, but it combined great with the subtle flavours of the crab,.
The AVA a burgundy like Oregon Red, was the perfect companion for the pheasant.

When we will be back in Femmøller or Ebeltoft we know where we will have our diner.

Had champagne (Bollinger house champagne) and snacks (amuse bouche) and 8 courses with the premium wine menu. Food was fantastic, in particular the octopus and the pork with truffles. The wine was amazing, white burgundy was heavy weighted with some of the best producers and several grand crus. The waiters were very generous with the wine which was noticable after 8 courses. We left very satisfied, full and tipsy. Will return next year. Visited for 2016 as well which was good, 2017 was even better. I will be surprised if Molskroen does not receive a star for next year.
