Buscot Manor was the highlight of our visit to Great Britain. We wanted to get away to a quiet, country setting, and this elegant country manor house was perfect! We were greeted by Dee, who immediately served us tea and a selection of biscuits in the front garden. When we asked about the lovely grounds, Romney and her enchanting daughter showed us around the stables, gardens, and fields and introduced us to their horses, peacocks and chickens. They made us feel a part of the family and even invited us to a birthday celebration for a friend that evening. We wanted to experience what it was like to live in the English countryside, and we did at Buscot Manor! In the evening we walked to the Thames (nearby) and strolled one of the many walking trails in Great Britain. The next morning we were awakened to such heavenly fragrances wafting from the kitchen and sat down to the most AMAZING full English breakfast, complete with six types of freshly baked breads. The hospitality was beyond compare to any other place we stayed during our two-week holiday. This is an ancient property in the country (which was what we wanted and expected), so don't expect the accommodations to be uniform or common (Marriot style). The entire place is imbued with character and old-world country charm, and I couldn't recommend this place more highly.

Room Tip: Because this is an historic property, we did not have an ensuite bathroom; however, two huge baths a...

We were greeted like old friends by Romney. We really liked it. It is a b&q and slightly quirky. We had a welcome tea and biscuits with her young daughter which we loved. We met the horses, walked their dog and had a great stay. It is not a formal hotel and probably wouldn't suit super shy and retiring people but we rated it and would return. Breakfast was nice and social with other guests.

This old and tasteful looking place could be just what you are looking for. It was just like visiting an old Aunt who was once wealthy. Yes there was a four poster bed, and the welcome was friendly. However cleaning and dusting were the last tings on the list.
We found pet hairs in our bed along with a stain on the sheets, clearly not changed prior to our arrival. Plastic flowers adorn the available spaces and are covered in dust.
The room was a good size looking a bit tired, but had no lock on the door, and the bathroom was a walk down the hall. The only thing to stop other guests using your bathroom when you weren't in it was a wooden label on the door handle saying "bathing in progress keep out". There was a small bolt inside the bathroom for when you were in it.
Breakfasts were delivered while the owner was juggling her children to get them ready for the school run, and consequently we were asked to be down earlier than we had hoped. Breakfast was large with a selection of cold items and sweet pastries and taken around a large table used by all the guests together. So tea pots and milk ect. were passed around. It was assumed you would want the full English after unless you had ordered something different the day before and we didn't know the drill. My partner is vegetarian. When I asked for smoked salmon I was told it had run out, even though none of the other guests had it.
There is a garden area front and back and a reasonable parking area, but beware if you are going to look at the rabbit or the peacock of the doggy doos all over the lawn, and I mean all over! There is a field with ponies and chickens run around where they please and supply your morning eggs.
This could be a great place to stay if the owners put more effort into cleanliness and privacy, because it is walking distance from Kelmscott Manor, Buscot Park, and the Thames path all of which are scintillating.

Room Tip: Take your own bedding, a pillow, and a door stop.
