We married at The Mill Forge on 8th December 2012. There was a total of 29 adults and one 4 year old.
When we decided we would like to be married in Scotland we visited many venues around the Gretna area but fell in love with the quirkyness and originality of The Mill Forge
The whole experience from booking our wedding in November 2011 was so smooth and hassle free which is down to the tremendous staff that work together and put the needs and requirements of the wedding party first and foremost.
We were given names and numbers of hair and make-up ladies, ministers, photographer, piper and any other professionals we may have liked to use. Even down to a good kennels in Carlise if we decided to bring the dogs.
During the 13 month time span we contacted by phone or e-mail several times and once or twice actually came up to have another look at rooms and brought seat covers to see if they fit etc and we was welcomed and made to feel special on each occasion even though staff was busy with weddings at the time.
The whole staff from the restaurant, bar, reception, any staff on site who came in contact with ourselves or guests were friendly, polite and professional in every way. (Had a good sense of humour too which was appreciated.) Nothing at all was too much trouble.
The evening before the wedding I asked to see if it would be possible to have breakfast in the bridalsuite with an aunt as her mobility was restricted. Not a problem at all. They asked what we would like and at what time. It arrived piping hot at the arranged time by two young waiting staff who were a credit to the Mill.
The bridal suite was gorgeous. Large with plenty of room for myself, three bridesmaids and hair and makeup ladies to work. The bathroom was fantastic. Complimentary gifts were a special touch which meant so much.
The food was plentyful and of finest quality. Sweets and starters were indiviual choice on the day but about 6 week before the date we could choose 2 main meals out of 6 for our guests plus vege option. The menu was a big plus for us as other wedding venues everyone had to have the same.
The guest bedooms in and around the courtyard were clean, warm and very comfortable.
The weather on the day was frosty to start and then light rain but after our ceremony we had lovely photo`s in the Forge and around the grounds which are extramly well tendered. Lots of features in the grounds as the water wheel, Gretna sign and of course in front of `The Kissing Gate` etc. In the summer when we visited there was flowers out and the trees and shrubs were full of colour.
Friends and family enjoyed the whole experience too and said they would all go back even if just visiting in the area.
Any anxieties or fears I had before and the run up to the wedding were soon dispelled and I/we enjoyed every second of our wedding weekend
For us our wedding weekend, especially our wedding day was perfect in every way.
