Review of Zoo de Champrepus

Zoo de Champrepus

We visited because it seemed too overcast for the beach. It was not a school holiday in France and so was very quiet. There were a good number of animals which occupied a few hours of walking around. They have a lot of play parks and bouncy castles for the kids which was a bonus.

A small zoo but one that gives the animals lots of space and a beautiful environment. There are not many animals but the ones they have are obviously very well looked after. Not many cages in this zoo!
We were allowed to park our car in the disabled bay as we had our 91 year old mother in the car who needs her own wheelchair. We have no disabled badge but we were told that this was no problem. The zoo has several wheelchairs that can be used free of charge. Apparently, the zoo is considering buying an electric wheelchair which can then be rented for a small fee.
Wheelchair access is sometimes not easy and pushing the chair through the thin gravel is tiring. However, staff are very friendly and will most certainly be willing to help, if necessary.
Entrance fee is very reasonable considering the amount of work and money it takes to build up and maintain the high quality of this zoo.
There is an impressive variety of plants and trees and going from one enclosure to another is like walking through a park. One often wonders what some plants and flowers are. Perhaps it is possible to put a little sign down with the names?
Not too many animals to be seen because they have such a big space to live in. Take you time and you'll spot them. Taking a pair of binoculars might not be a bad idea.
Staff in the restaurant are also friendly and helpful. The crêpes we ate were excellent but we really didn't like the plastic plate and plastic cutlery. The latter is a bit of a let-down.

Having visited many zoos, this stands out clearly as the best in France. Wide selection of animals in nicely landscaped enclosures. In addition numerous areas in which you can get up close and personal with the friendlier animals, and not just goats!!! Clearly well maintained with lots of creative and interesting child focused diversions to keep them motivated. Plus great playground and bouncy castles...

We went here for a day as it very close to our campsite. Was really impressed with the thought that had gone into theming the areas right down to the plant life that the animals would find in their natural habitat. They have a great petting zoo part and you can also get up close to the lemurs and the birds as well. We took a picnic but it seemed reasonably priced for an attraction. We got discounted tickets from our campsite, but I think the prices are about 16 euros for an adult and 13 for a child. Would recommend going here and we would probably go back if we came back to this part of France.
