“Vilamoura, Algarve wonderful fun for everyone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2010

Vilamoura is a sensational place to holiday. If you want pazzaz, glitz and luxury, forget Marbella and St tropez, visit Vilamoura on the Algarve. I love it. I have visited both Marbella and St tropez, but Vilamoura and the golden triangle of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago has the panche, but not the "plastic" look.

Marbella is as fake as plastic surgery and St Tropez is like a gold plated watch you buy at a market stall. Vilamoura and the Golden Triangle in the Algarve are wear real superstars come to get out of the limelight. They are in the Algarve in their 1000's but they love the Algarve as it is not "in your face" I love it as it is just fantastic. Nightlife, bars, restaurants, food from €5 to €500 and just everything you need.

“Pass on Vilamoura Portugal”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2009

Vilamoura, tired Vilamoura is how I would express it in November. Grubby, lots of graffiti (not nice), getting shabby around the area close to the marina. Oh! the marina and all the expensive boats with no one on them.
Didn't realise that there was so much poverty on the Algarve, would not have gone there on holiday if we had known. We are not rich people by any measure but we are clean and proud, so we were shocked at the scruffynus of the areas away from the Golf Courses (we are not golfers), we took trips out that took us by the Golf Courses and you could see the investment that was being ploughed into the sport (the Algarve has that to be thankful for).
Find yourself a good local restaurant and it saves the day, we found a hole in the wall opposite the fish market, excellent food and wine 30 euros (thats for 2)
The Dom Pedro Marina Hotel was OK but no more than that.
Where do they get 4star from? 2 star I think would be fair.

“wonderful, beautiful”

First time staying in Portugal and found this wonderful place called Villamoura. Full of great restaurants to suit every taste, at the Marina, also you can book a trip to see the dolphins swim. The apartment we stayed in at Monte Laguna, was wonderful also. Everyone was so friendly, and we even had the taxi driver we used, coming to dinner at our apartment. Would recommend this area and apartments to all. Had a blinding holiday, and met some wonderful people. Will definately go back next year.

“Great Family Holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2009

Me & my husband went on holiday to Vilamoura in June 2009 with our two young daughters aged 2 & half and a 1 year old. We did have a great time in Vilamoura as it was so child friendly. We stayed at the Vila Sol Apartments which was perfect for our 10 day stay. (I have written a seperate reveiw on our apartment if you want more info) We spent most of our holiday by the pool at the apartment as they had a brilliant baby pool, that my daughters loved!

We also ventured out to Zoo Marine which was excellent! It was about 30 minutes drive from Vilamoura and very easy to get to. We all enjoyed the dolphin show, sea lion show, the aquarium and the rides for the children. The only thing I have to say is maybe to take your own packed lunch as food here was not great! Was very greasy and didn't taste very nice.. Another tip is also get to the show about half hour before show time to get a seat, as it gets very full!!

The restaurants by the Marina were great for dinner time. We especially liked the Mayflower Restaurant that had delicious fish dishes and was also child friendly with high chairs, baby changing & kiddie menu. We all really enjoyed the food here and it was right by the Marina.

Another restaurant which we found just behind the main marina area was Il Trio, a fantastic Italian restaurant! Was bit more difficult to find but well worth looking for. Think it was near an indian restaurant called Kohindoor or something similar. The food here was lovely and staff friendly, although they took a little while to warm up.

The one place I defiantely would like to mention is -KRAZY WORLD. I recommend NEVER GO HERE!!! We saw it in some brouchures and it sounded good on paper, but It was the worst place we went on our holiday and a waste of money! They say they have a petting zoo, crazy golf, bouncy castles, restaurants.. But the animals are kept in such a shocking state! Its so dirty, the animals look frail, their enclosures are appaling. It should be closed down! It was the most depressing thing iv ever seen! And they charge you a hefty some for this pleasurable experience they offer.. We were out of there in 15 minutes flat! THE BIGGEST RIP OFF SCAM!

Apart from KRAZY WORLD though, our holiday in Vialmoura was excellent! We really enjoyed it and definately recommend it for other young families.

“Short holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2009

Beautiful resort. Fantastic marina. Dozens of places to eat and drink, all the restaurants we tried were excellent. Food served hot and nicely presented. Only drawback was the exchange rate of the euro, so this made everything very expensive. We travelled by local bus to Faro and Albufeira. We wouldn't go back to Faro again, but Albufeira is worth a visit. A piece of advice - do not stay on the bus until the Bus Station in Albufeira as it's a long walk to the town and it's all uphill on the way back. Get off at the stop before the Bus Station.
There are not a lot of shops in Vilamoura and what there is, aren't very good.
There is a nice little archeological site to visit just behind the top end of the marina (North). Well worth 2 euros.
