The restaurant is in a beautiful setting just next to the river. Every dish from the set menu is very nicely presented and the taste is very good. I am surprised by the sheer size of the dessert. They have also very friendly and helpful staff.

Was invited to have a lunch in a sunny terrace on the first day of Spring.
Great choice to say yes! Great tasting menu with highlights on the home smoked salmon and the savoury delicate oyster.
Wine pairing in and brilliant sommelier service by the hands of the man-in-charge Ja-Willem.
Can't miss!

X-mas 2015 was great: live music, relaxed atmosphere, excellent food.
X-mas 2016 was meant to repeat this. But alas, no music, which was the greatest disappointment of all. Now it was just another dinner party, without a special X-mas ring around it. The personnel weren't as relaxed either, we could feel the stress from the kitchen to the tables, not what we were accustomed. The food was good, with special care for allergies, but couldn't make up for the disappointments.Somewhere else, X-mas 2017, I'm afraid.

The restaurant is in a great location, within the city walls of the Naarden Vesting. Cobble stone streets, a city wall that dates back to the 13th century I believe, even a moat around the city! The set up, the ambiance can't be beat!
Dinner started off great with a delicious glass of prosecco. The waiter was great. My friend asked for a full glass of ice - Americans like a lot of ice, the Dutch don't give a lot of ice - the waiter brought a really ice bucket with tongs. It was very sweet. The menu looked great and we ordered. The manager or maître d' came to take our order. There were 3 of us and 2 of us decided to share the steak tartar appetizer as it tends to be heavy and we both planned to order entrees and still wanted to leave room for dessert. We were asked if we wanted the steak tartare split on separate plates or share from 1 plate. I said one plate was fine (we're close friends, have been for more than 30 years). That's when I was put in my place! The maître d' very aggressively told me how low class and inappropriate it was to share for from one plate and how it's just not something he finds acceptable in his restaurant. I wondered a little why he had asked, but I wasn't about to escalate the situation and make it even more unpleasant. The steak tartar was excellent. Then came my fillet of sole. It was rubber. Sole should melt in your mouth, not be chewy. I told the waiter and he agreed that when he filleted the sole he thought it wasn't right. It had taken some time to get the waiters attention and by the time he came the other people at the table had almost finished. I didn't want to be eating while they had long finished (plus I had polished off the delicious little salty potatoes by this time) so I declined his offer of something else. He insisted and I asked for a piece of the fish the others at my table had. Several minutes later the maître d' appeared and plopped down, without a word, the exact same piece of sole I had sent back for being rubber. I tried again, and it was still rubber. Several minutes later the waiter came and asked me if I didn't like this piece either. I told him it looked like the same piece of fish only grilled more. He said he doubted it was, but could be possible. He took my plate and then the chef appeared at the table. He assured me it was not the same piece of fish. He then also said that he thought the dish was a little rubbery and attributed this to something called "fish rigor mortis". It's exactly what it sounds like and honestly not something I really wanted to know. He said it happens some times when the fish isn't handled exactly as it should be when it's caught. He said there is no way to tell when you buy the fish, but it is evident when you cook it. All very unfortunate, but it happens. I ordered an extravagant dessert instead - tart tartan AND chocolate mousse! Both were delicious and combined with the bottle of prosecco and the great company I had a nice time. Then the bill came. The €35 piece of rigor mortis fish everyone agreed was rubbery and not what it should be was on the bill! I didn't pay the bill and the person who did did not want to argue with the maître d' or anyone else. He wanted to pay and leave. It wasn't my place to argue about the charge as I wasn't paying the bill. I regret it a little now, 5 days later. Just terrible. What kind of restaurant serves bad fish, agrees the fish is bad and then charges their customer for it anyway?

No surprises and that is something you would expect. But the food is good and well prepared. Nicely served, nevertheless I did not manage to catch one smile on the servants faces. Neither did my three guests. We were fine, but were they?
