Visited Fausto a few times recently as it's so close to my house and the quality of food/drinks/service varies with which staff are working. The owner doesn't seem to be in often at all, so you can't expect staff to care with no vested interest (most of whom seem to be teenagers).
They offer specialty coffee beans but don't make coffee to proper standards - unused grounds are left in a mess around the grinder, coffee is either too hot, over extracted or you get a flat white that isn't flat.. Food is overpriced and basic (£5.50 for eggs on toast) - I've attached a pic here of the **** I received. No point complaining to staff as no one senior is ever in.
There are a couple of comfortable chairs but if they're in use, you're left with really uncomfortable small wooden chairs that must've been chosen for their quirky/rustic look, but leave you with a numb **** after sitting more than 10 minutes.
The cafe will still be a success because of the location, and they've cornered the cyclist market. It's not better because it doesn't need to be better - Sunderland doesn't exactly have a thriving coffee scene. You'll notice though that the bare bones cafe next door is always busy because customers know what they're getting and there's no pretense.
