Visited Fausto a few times recently as it's so close to my house and the quality of food/drinks/service varies with which staff are working. The owner doesn't seem to be in often at all, so you can't expect staff to care with no vested interest (most of whom seem to be teenagers).

They offer specialty coffee beans but don't make coffee to proper standards - unused grounds are left in a mess around the grinder, coffee is either too hot, over extracted or you get a flat white that isn't flat.. Food is overpriced and basic (£5.50 for eggs on toast) - I've attached a pic here of the **** I received. No point complaining to staff as no one senior is ever in.

There are a couple of comfortable chairs but if they're in use, you're left with really uncomfortable small wooden chairs that must've been chosen for their quirky/rustic look, but leave you with a numb **** after sitting more than 10 minutes.

The cafe will still be a success because of the location, and they've cornered the cyclist market. It's not better because it doesn't need to be better - Sunderland doesn't exactly have a thriving coffee scene. You'll notice though that the bare bones cafe next door is always busy because customers know what they're getting and there's no pretense.

Lovely location, great music, friendly staff and always a warm welcome! Not least to pooches, it's invaluable to be able to go indoors with a dog on the North East coast!! Fab cuppas and cakes, comfy seats and always loads going on - FAB!

I love this place. The staff are so friendly. The coffee and cakes delicious and customers very welcoming.
Faustos run various, free community groups from here:
Cycling (highly recommended).
Sea swimming (I LOVE this Sunday morning group).
Book groups.
Language classes.
Dance classes.
Running and fitness.

It’s (well behaved) dog friendly. Veggie/Vegan friendly and just generally friendly.

DO NOT GO IF YOU’RE ON A DIET!!

Being a member of a large cycling club in Tyneside, I’ve seen quite a few reports on Fausto from Club members. Made the effort today to cycle down only to find a relaxed, friendly, busy and lively cafe with a great range of cakes and snacks as well as tasty coffee and teas. What I also liked was the dog friendliness of the place, being a dog owner it’s great to see somewhere that welcomes out four legged friends. It’s a 19 mile cycle from my house to Fausto via the Shields Ferry but will certainly do it again. 38 Miles well worth cycling for.

Fausto Coffee has a strong cyclist element to it but non cyclists are equally welcome. The place has a great ambience with comfortable quaint surroundings and fantastic views of the sea. The food is lovely and the staff all very friendly and helpful. It's the perfect place to just sit and chill with a cup of tea after a hard day.(On a bike or on foot).
