A weekend downhill skiing trip to the mountains in Geilo, Norway. Location of Ustedalen hotel is very good with only a two minute bus ride (free of charge) to the main chairlift in Geilo. The hotel has gone through major refurbishment in almost all areas. The two rooms we got were virtually brand new with unused fridge, cooker and sink in the room. Beds and bedding were new and gave good rest after a strenuous day on the slopes. Breakfast buffet was included in the room price and very good. The hotel served dinner only during weekends. The swimming pool was somewhat on the small side, but nice and warm. Changing room was virtually nonexistent, so put your swim gear on in your room. The hotel has an adjoining warm ski stall. Hotel was nice and warm even during -26 degC at night and -20 degC during the daytime.

Room Tip: The resort provides both hotel accommodation as well as flats for rent

Stayed for just a single night. Clean, spacious two bedroom apartment with kitchen with basic utensils provided and small living/dining area. Beds were a bit on the soft size and pillows soft and uncomfortable. The one major downside to the hotel is the proximity to the train which runs just behind the property and rather noisy while coming through all night long. Wound recommend requesting a room facing away from the train. Breakfast on site for an additional charge which was fairly standard but quite expensive. Had I been there more time would have made my own breakfast as we had the kitchen.

The property is located in the best part of Geilo with direct view over the mountain. The accommodation is pretty new and you can enjoy high level of cleanness. Kitchen is fully equipped, more than you need.

Fundamentally I have difficulty to understand their business model of having extra charges for bed liens, towels and cleaning fee. Their apartment rate is already high and above the average in Norway (which it worth every penny). So charging for a bed lien or towel does not make so much of difference in this rate equation. In fact it reminds me some hotels that try to keep their base rate low and start to rip off their customers by "additional charges". So I highly recommend to the owners/managers of this property to change their pricing policy. Another shortfall was beds. All of them were very soft that forced one of us to sleep on the floor on second night of our stay. Soft beds are not healthy and easily can led to back pain. It would be better to write in the property information that railway is just 10 meters far from some apartments (not all the apartments are affected) and it may disturb light sleepers.

Who could imagine that when booking this place, which calls itself in its title "Hotell & resort" (the two ll's in the name is the Norwegian version,) you don't get sheets and towels?
We checked into the hotel and went to our appointed room, it turned out that these are winter ski condominiums. When you get a key, they also lock up the doors of the unused bedrooms, leaving you with your one bedroom and a seating area. No one said anything at the reception until we came back to complain that the beds had not been made. They explained that since these were apartments, guests were expected to bring their own sheets and towels.
Really? Schlepp them from the USA?????
The bedroom had two narrow cots, smaller than our USA twin-size bed.

Only when we threatened to walk out, did they give us each a bag with a set of sheets so we could make the beds ourselves.
Also, no one mentioned that there is a train line right outside the buildings. Literally under our windows. These are both passenger trains and freight trains.
Needless to say, there was no sleep for the weary.

While the apartment seemed pristine and the living room furniture comfortable, when walking barefoot we noticed the sand that had not been vacuumed. The bathroom was clean. Shower stall was tiny even though there was plenty of space for a larger stall.

Room Tip: Facing away from the train line!
