Firstly what a treasure! The island. The village - it's unbelievable to find such an untouched, hidden beauty in this modern world but that is what lamu, Shela and Waridi House are - treasures.

As soon as I arrived at Waridi House, I knew I had found something extremely special. When you walk into it's wonderful walls you are transported to a beacon of unfaltering tranquility. It is the perfect place to stay with both friends or family (or both!) and has excellent places for group entertaining ( A beautiful huge dinner table/ lounge area with sofa's and swing chair and a dipping pool/ fountain). One night we even had a group of local singers and dancers come into the main area to give us a performance! Saying that, Waridi House also has lot's of space to take a quiet moment and just enjoy the moment.

The house is in the perfect position for exploring the beautiful beach town of Shela, and is easily yet nicely tucked away. It is also close to a jungle path which takes you directly onto the jewel of an expansive beach - perfect for sunrise walks (look out for sand dollars!). It comes with probably the most lovely, organised and friendly staff and impeccably talented chef. My highlights are the lobster, oysters and vongole (oh and the honey lemon tea).

It also has a beautiful roof terrace with 360 panoramic views of the village and surrounding foliage which is both the perfect place to sunbathe, read a book and unwind or get some tunes on and dance under the stars!

The house has such a wonderful character and you can feel that many happy times have been experienced there. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Room Tip: All the rooms equally have their own charm and something that sets them apart

Waridi house is an unexpected box of delights, hidden away in a village that time forgot. You have the best of both worlds for a holiday here, peace and privacy in a beautiful house, quiet, cool and comes complete with an excellent chef, the house is nestled at the back of a lovely ancient Swahili village, which has no cars, only donkeys.

Yet if you desire it beach life, sea sports, sundowners and cocktails are but ten minutes walk away or a small 15 mins boat trip to Manda island opposite. Ideal for those looking to get away, families and couples who appreciate the finer things in life.

Room Tip: Each room is uniquely styled - each has large double bed, ensuite bathroom and view over the village or San dunes

This place is awesome. Sleepy little fishing village surrounded by lush white sands - totally unspoilt. Delicious fresh fish brought in every day and cooked by a very relaxed and attentive house keeper. The house is large and comfortable, with beautiful bedrooms and local furnishings all overlooking a central courtyard. An oasis of tranquility. Wonderful view from the roof terrace which is a great spot for sunbathing, only downside is the fact that you have to walk 3 flights down to the ground floor to cool off in the plunge pool. Peponis bar is a 5 minute walk and is an ideal spot for a sundowner overlooking the beach - they do a fine margarita and have a lovely old backgammon set (a fine combo)

The Island is a World Heritage Site and the house is ideally located, the best kept secret in the world, right next to an eight mile beach of golden sand and warm sea! The house is located in the back of an ancient Swahili village where there are no cars. Excellent local food and freshly caught fish cooked by Crispus the chef, and wonderful massages by Naima who will also babysit your children. Wonderful, safe haven for families to relax in the sun. Great bars and restaurants on Manda Island opposite (5 minutes away) or the famous local hotel Peponis. We also had a wonderful day at Manda Bay Hotel (20 minute boat ride away). Each room has a great view and its own terrace.
