I recently stayed at Rickerby Grange for a couple of nights with my two teenage boys. The room was spotlessly clean and the shower was very powerful. Phil was very accommodating in providing us with an extra duvet and we were offered the use of the lovely new lounge area. Breakfasts were fine although we’re all fussy about sausages / bacon / black pudding so a better local supplier is needed for these.
Portinscale is a lovely little place - the path down to Derwent Water and Catbells passes through it (right outside Rickerby Grange) so you can leave the car and walk from the door. Great for accessing the Newlands valley by road. Ample car parking off road is a bonus too. Keswick is a 15 minute pleasant stroll away which is ideal for walking off a meal and a few drinks! There’s a great little pub just around the corner too (Farmer’s Arms) and we had a good meal there on the first night.
Phil and Charlotte (new owners) are going through the place rapidly and I look forward to a return visit in the future. They are undoubtedly going to put Rickerby Grange back on the map!More
