We Stayed at this lovely place Riverside apartments on Saturday till Tuesday. It was our first time to Ireland. It was lovely and spacious and very clean. We had plenty of fresh towels for our stay. Also we found that it a very safe place to leave your car, since they have an electric gate system for both in and out. My husband fell in love with the donkey outside, since we just love animals. Thank you for letting us stay at this wonderful place, and we will defiantly returning back.
Mr and Mrs Powney from the UK.

The Barefoot Pirate visited Hanley’s Marina in Ballyleague/ Lanesborough, County Roscommon/ Longford. Ballyleague/ Lanesborough is situated at the north end of Lough Ree with one side of the River Shannon in Longford and the other side in Roscommon. It is a small town but well serviced with shops, pubs and a couple of restaurants so you could stay a night or two if you wished. There is a public marina with services, but the Barefoot Pirate stayed at Hanley’s Marina instead. Hanley’s is on the Roscommon side of the bridge in the town and is a short walk from all amenities. They can be quite busy so call to book a spot in the high season. It has 120 private berths and a hard standing and slip way is also available. It is a gated facility and has CCTV cameras installed so it feels quite safe and secure. There is a full-time mechanic available called JT to deal with any breakdowns, and the owner Michael Hanley spends a lot of time at the marina also. Diesel fuel is available on the quayside and there is a service station nearby if you require petrol. The toilet block contains three unisex toilets and shower rooms that were clean. There is also a pump out station onsite. Water and mains power are available at all berths in the Marina. The Barefoot Pirate would recommend the following improvements, however. The surface outside the toilet block is just hard-core stone and would benefit from tarring or concrete. The toilet block itself while kept clean was seriously lacking in essentials. Before we continue, the Barefoot Pirate stayed in Hanley’s for a short time in 2019 and found similar issues then. Water taps not working, soap dispensers not working, showers not working, no loo roll…where does it end. The crew of the Barefoot Pirate were forced to shower in the special needs toilet because it was the only working shower. Sort it out Mr Hanley, this is just not good enough, especially considering the mooring fee. You should not need to be told that BBQ’s, picnic tables and some planting of shrubs and flowers would help soften the ‘boat yard’ feel of the place. Also, there were a number of dogs running free in the marina and their ‘deposits’ made any walk a bit of an obstacle course at times. Extra water taps on the jetties would be helpful also as some are too far from berths and a ‘normal length’ water hose just will not reach. These issues need to be addressed. One cannot operate a marina on a wing and a prayer especially when caravan, glamping and camping parks are going to such great lengths to provide the amenities expected and the service anticipated by their clients. All in all, there is room for improvement, hence the average 3 star score. Regards, The Barefoot Pirate.

Hanley's is a privately run marina on the Roscommon side of the River Shannon. If you cross the bridge you will be in Longford as the village straddles both counties. It is situated on the north end of Lough Rea and there is plenty of boat traffic up and down the river throughout the season. The Marina itself is only five minutes walk from shops, pubs and restaurants. The village itself is quite small but if you're just looking for a feed and a few quiet drinks you won't be disappointed. The marina itself is gated and quite secure. The facilities there contain unisex toilets and showers which in general are kept quite well. Diesel fuel and full mechanical assistance are available onsite as is a slipway if required. The road surfaces around the toilet block are just hard core and could do with being completed and to be honest the full site could do with some modernisation like resurfacing the road, providing picnic tables and maybe a couple of barbecues . There are no complaints about the floating jetties however, they are perfect as are the water and electrical points on each of the three or four fingers. The proprietor, Michael Hanley is a credit to tourism in Ireland and could not do enough to make our stay a happy one. Overall I would encourage anyone passing up or down river to pop into Hanleys for a peaceful and relaxing night on the water. Regards, the Barefoot Pirate.
