Dined with a friend and had no intention of eating three courses, but I did! Friend had the gnocchi entrée, lamb back strap and panacotta - all amazing. I had the scallops entrée, fish main and chocolate praline dessert - the scallops were good, fish main OK (too much butter taste, not enough zing), and dessert sensational. Service was fast, seamless and just a little bit cheeky (perfect!) although we were there on a quiet mid week night. All three courses for $65 - absolute winner :)

This was a terrible experience. Over priced, over blown and under served.. Our steak was nothing to write home about and potion sizes were actually laughable. I am a small eater and have come home to eat dinner. Priced like fining dining but really having a bit of lend. We wont be back. (My husband says this review is too kind)
Ordinary service having to ask for water glasses to be topped up. When the
dessert was brought to the table our guests couldn't contain their laughter at the chocolate mouse (maybe 2 teaspoons worth of dessert!)

Decor, atmosphere fantastic. Service friendly, diligent. We chose mains and dessert and were informed that it would be a half hour wait for that. On a Friday night and Saturday night you are required to have 2 courses. BYO available at other times but not these 2 nights. Mains were delicious, well cooked and presented, but on the small side and expensive for what you got. Dessert again delicious, decorative but too expensive. Enjoyed our evening except for the excessive bill.

We have just come home from having dinner here. Perfect is an understatement. Majdouline is the most gorgeous woman - attentive, kind and thoughtful in regards to our two young children being with us for dinner. The atmosphere was beautiful, and right from the start with the buttery, creamy bread to a delicious frangelico dessert - we couldn't fault our meals.. The loveliest evening I have had in a long time. We will be back again, and again and again........Jen Wilson

Samuels has been a Thirroul institution for many years. My first visit better than the last. Front of house is modern design with subdued ample lighting, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The hosts were very diligent catering to every need without ever being intrusive or hovering.
I was seated immediately and menus given and choices made quickly. The entree was presented quickly.- 8 seared Port Phillip Bay scallops with a caper glaze and a chinese cracker at $25.90. The entree was not particularly well seared, but tasty. Breads included here were the Hokkaido Milk bread. Soft and fluffy.
It was an eternity waiting to be served the mains- with only 14/45 customers a full house would have been interesting. The offering was Lamb Backstrap, pea and mint puree with a pea and mint puree alongside a decorative lentil and cumin puree in micro amounts. The lamb was excellently cooked but at $41.90 was very poor value- so little to eat that Samuels offered 3 salads to complement the meal at $9.90. It was like ordering a meal for full cost, receiving half and being asked to pay for the other half again. Art on a plate.
Dessert was well executed , being a Dark Chocolate semifreddo, chocolate mousse crisp, raspberry and cherry merangue and salted caramel sauce. I do remember 2 raspberries, no merangue. The dessert was as good as they come But again at $26 was very poor value due to the amount served. The dessert was served on a 18 inch plate and was simply lost, asking for more to be served.
Good selection of wines. $10 for 120ml of Malbec in a glass, mean spirited. Good selection of beers. They just nip into Samuels Bar next door.
Did it pass the "wow I liked that" 'That was a great meal" test? No. I had a late supper at a Wollongong Restaurant to quell the hunger pangs.
