The cottages are owned separately from the resort. No air conditioning, no kitchen table and the deck was a mess. The stove was removed;had to share a bbq.We had a resort room confirmed, but that was changed to a cottage and of course, the resort was full! The owners of the cottages should be ashamed of themselves! The food at the resort was excellent as was the staff. The golf course was in great shape, but tough and we got to play with the President and his lovely wife. They were wonderfull! Please sell the cottages to the resort so they can get fix them up.It does not appear that the current cottage owners will do anything except make money!

Thank you kirlaura,
We are in the process of purchasing the cottages and hope to make some great improvements over the winter. So glad to hear you enjoyed the rest of our property and had a opportunity to play the course. We look forward to your next visit with us

I took a short trip to Dundee resort last month with some family and had an amazing time, the views were stunning, great customer service, food was perfect and everything I needed for a great weekend was already there at the resort! I definitely will come back again!

My daughter picked Dundee for her wedding destination and she couldn’t have picked a better spot. From day one Judy would do anything to accommodate our wishes she bent over backwards the weekend of the wedding ,she helped us out in anyway and every way possible. All of the staff from checking in to the bar tender, the restaurant staff also the cleaning staff were all so friendly and helpful . The food was excellent couldn’t have asked for better and that included the clubhouse. The resort has been recently bought and the new owners are doing a lot of work to refurbish everything from new comforters, curtains, carpet, furniture, and all freshly painted and people should be aware that they do not own the cottages yet , although you still have to book them through the resort. In time they are hoping to get ownership of them and then they too will be cleaned and updated so do not attack the staff on this issue. We have received so many compliments of how beautiful and smooth the wedding went and everyone had a wonderful time and being able to stay on resort and not have anyone drive was a big relief for everyone.I would highly recommend this destination for a wedding ,golf game ,family and friends vacation! Hats off to all who were involved in the wedding ,a fantastic job !

Room Tip: Stay in hotel with air conditioning and wifi

Ahh Thanks so much Velma. We are all still talking about the fun we as a staff had with your amazing family and friends. We look forward to seeing Nicole and Darrell for their one year anniversary. You are all such great people, we were honored to be able to host such a special day for you all.
Again thank you for your kind words.

The Good:

- The staff are fantastic. Very friendly, very willing to do whatever they can to help. The overall review shouldn't reflect on the staff AT ALL.
- Dinner at the dining room was fantastic, very reasonably priced, lovely view - The grounds in general are nice and well maintained, with no shortage of good places to lounge and enjoy a book or read.
- Beds were comfortable and the room was functional if slightly spartan.
- Good selection of boats at the boat house

The Bad:

- General lack of maintenance. The bathroom door in our suite didn't close at all, the tennis courts were in desperate need of repair, the indoor pool didn't have working heat or a working men's room and apparently hadn't for over a month. The entire place is in desperate need of renovation. The refrain was that the hotel is under new ownership and being renovated, but that doesn't help the guests paying full price now.
- Several of the bathrooms smelled like outhouses
- Hotel internet is poor at best - when I (as a software developer) called to indicate they were having internet issues (and told them what the issue was and how to fix it), the response was essentially 'keep trying until it works, that's typical for our internet'.
- Cell service was terrible, they need to have an extender installed at the property. I was able to find one specific spot that I could make phone calls from from the parking lot.
- General cleanliness wasn't great - the hot tub in our suite had a residue of scum on it until we asked for it to be cleaned.
- I was shocked at the "$75.00 late checkout fee" for up to 2 hours, then full price after, something most hotels offer as a free courtesy to those who want/need it.
- While the hot breakfast was pretty good (if a bit overpriced), the continental was disgraceful and among the worst we've seen (Cereal, toast, muffins, no fresh fruit that I recall). I've never before seen somewhere have to water down Apple Juice, but I ordered one off the menu just to see if there was a difference - sure enough, you could see the difference between the watered down continental juice and the juice from the menu (see picture, the golden glass on the left is ordered, the mostly clear water like glass on the right came from the continental breakfast). The free continental, as far as we can discern, is just a way to lure you into the dining room to smell the hot breakfast. - TV's aren't set up for any kind of media content. No Netflix, Cineplex, Roku, (the TV's have them, they just aren't set up to work), even the ports on the side of the TV stand don't work. Instead, you have about 7 working channels of standard definition basic cable (the guide lists about 20, but most don't work and just display the Bell logo). The provided remote is so limited you can't even properly adjust the volume if you hook a laptop up to the TV.
- The boathouse attendant did not know lifejackets are rated by weight and gave my wife one five times too big and myself one under rated. While it wouldn't have affected us (I am a trained lifeguard), this is something that could easily get someone who doesn't know how to swim killed. If the lifejacket rises above your head when tugged, it's incorrectly sized, and someone handing out boats to guests needs to be better trained than that.
- No guide to resort features anywhere on site. Guests are left to fend for themselves to find out what is available.

My wife and I stayed here in August for our honeymoon. The staff were lovely, but the resort didn't live up to it's reputation. Between the general lack of polish, the dated fixtures, the lack of cleanliness in several areas, the disgraceful continental breakfast, the desperate need of attention to the facilities. Despite paying full price, it honestly felt like we were staying off season or before formal opening, not peak tourist season.

The refrain that I kept hearing was that the resort is under new ownership - which is true. This may well change in the future, and we'd consider revisiting to see if things changed. As it stands, with so many lovely places to stay in Cape Breton, you can do better.

Room Tip: Avoid room 219 - the bathroom door does not close
