“Easy access , friendly times, far enough to feel private, close enough when needed”

Our hosts were wonderful, always available when we needed them. They offered many ideas on activities and magical places to visit.
We left each morning in search of unpopulated beaches and reef that offered us snorkeling paradise....The villa was a great place in that it sits right in the middle of the islands length. We might venture north or south for the day and then return to the villa in the evening to cook dinner and watch Netflix on our kindle or read until the exhaustion of a full day caught up with us and we'd sleep deeply.... The air conditioning in the throughout all the rooms and living room, kept us cool and comfortable.
It's not an over the top fancy place, but has exactly what we look for ...value, cleanliness, location and friendly hosts that are invisible unless needed and that come by periodically to check on us and offer suggestions.....we were invited to a local fish fry fund raiser and felt welcome and ate well.
I have a love affair with the Bahamas and a month at the villas just deepened this love.
We will return....we had the whole property to ourselves most of the time; and when there were other guests in another of the villas, we still felt we had our privacy.
We used this location as a place to sleep, eat and rest up for our next excursion.
I'd recommend bug spray for all the evening critters that fly about biting and stinging.... I travel with my own pillow which makes my sleep one hundred times easier...we also bring a lot of dry goods like top-ramin, mashed potatoes or rice in foil packets. Cereal packed in ziplock bags, nuts and dried fruit, and many other light weight food items...popcorn , trail mix ... Anything like this that you can pack and carry in your suitcase....we keep it all light in packing....I mostly wear a swimsuit and light cover up with old school flip flops ...a hat is nice for the noontime sun... Food costs more then mainland markets...it is resupplied once a week and bread goes quick...there are some fantastic local bakeries that aren't marked for tourists, but rather sit in the midst of some of the settlements.... Best ever to seek them out... Also wonderful to bring some soft covered books for the local libraries or colored pens or paints with brushes for the local schools....anything that you might think of to share with the island settlements is wonderful.
At one point I cut my finger pretty deep on a conch shell. The doctor and nurse at the clinic were thoroughly professional and kind. At another point I needed to refill a prescription. I brought all my information to the clinic that had a doctor on site that day. He was able to find a comparable medication, write a prescription and I filled it at the Spanish Wells pharmacy.
We visited Governors Island and meet so many new friends and felt so welcome that we came back a second time. We didn't find the same friendliness on Spanish Wells. Our visit there we had planned for a whole day of exploring, but left as soon as we had filled our prescription. Just felt very closed off to visitors...we had decided to walk the mile or so to the pharmacy, assuming that if we got overheated we could hitch a ride on a passing golf cart... Well, we did get overheated as more then 20 golf carts , each with plenty of room for two more passengers, rushed by without a look back....nowhere on the main island of Eleuthera, nor on Governors Island, did any one person act so unconcerned about other people. Finally a sweet gal u-turned and drove us to the ferry..it was the only place in our month of exploring that we couldn't leave fast enough....
There were days we stayed at the villa....we snorkeled out back on the beautifully isolated beach off our porch. As we swam all along this reef, we loved watching as the clams and other sealife would snap shut as we approached.; it was as if they were doing the wave in a giant sports stadium. The back patio was a nice place to lounge in the morning and late afternoon. I also really enjoyed hunting for shells out back on our quiet beach. We rarely saw anyone while at the villa. I'd stroll each morning and each late afternoon and found many varieties of shell and coral on the long stretch of beach right off our porch. Also we'd watch the lightening storms over the ocean at night. We'd cover ourselves from insects and lay on the lounge chairs on our back deck at midnight and watch as lightening bolts of gold and orange became a magical display and the thunder shook all around us....amazing! On clear nights we'd count the falling stars and search for passing satellites ... The isolation of the villa gave us a night sky that allowed so much more of the night landscape to be visible for us to view. The porch is a nice place to lounge and watch the ocean. There is a little channel of sea grass between the reefs. This is where we'd snorkel out of... Then along the reef once through this mini channel. The baby fish all swim in this seagrass channel and one day we were delighted to be swimming above hundreds of newly born barracuda just half an inch or so in length....another time, along this reef, more then one hundred fish, all in unison, came to swim beneath us. We dove down to join them and they parted a hole in their formation for us to come through...we played this way, in back and forth unison, for a good twenty minutes....there are just so many good memories waiting to happen...we brought home so many....
Explore and enjoy and if time allows, visit the Eleuthera School....they will give you a tour of their amazing campus filled with young adults from all over the world...it's truly a beautiful place of learning.
And I don't want to forget, we bring our own snorkeling gear, fins, mask and extra if we're staying longer then a week.
Enjoy the island, respect the people and you should have an amazing adventure...❣

“A perfect location, with perfect relaxation”
Reviewed 14 February 2016 for a stay in December 2015

My wife and I stayed at Thompson's Villas for 3 weeks starting December 18th, 2015. We were then joined for the final 8 days by my sister, brother-in-law and nephew (9 years old). We have nothing negative to say, and much positive to say.
Thompson's Villas is in a perfect location, because South Palmetto Point is located roughly midway down the very long thin island of Eleuthera, just a few minutes south of Governer's Harbour. Governer's Harbour offers several of the best stores on the island on which to buy supplies. An awful lot of the nicest places to visit on Eleuthera are located close by, including Ten Bay Beach, French Leave Beach, Tippy's and several other good restaurants. When you do decide to drive further away, the mid-island location means nothing is too far.
Thompson's Villas provides a perfect base camp for excursions, so long as you have a car, and the Thompsons will arrange a rental car for you. This was very convenient, and we made good use of our Jimmy, which had the storage space and high clearance we needed for our outings. If I had to name one highlight of our visit, it was the fact that we could drive and explore a new place every day, but upon returning to the villa in the early afternoon, the fun was not over. Many tines I got back to the villa, made a quick drive to buy supplies, then took a drink out to the villa's own beach, where I would lie on the beach chair on the sand, with a drink by my side, and marvel at how high the sun still was in the sky, realizing I still had hours to catch the sun with a glorious view.
That beach is not as good as many other beaches for swimming and snorkelling, but that does not mean it is not good at all for those things. Certainly give it a try! The shells are plentiful too, and the fire pit is great fun. The back deck is spacious, well-furnished and steps from the sand (3 steps, I think).
Inside, the villas have everything we needed. We stayed in a 2-bedroom, and when my sister arrived she stayed in one of the studio villas, with her son taking the spare bedroom in our villa. We appreciated the wifi, which helped us plan our next-day activities, and the kitchen, washrooms and bedrooms were just right.
Finally, the Thompsons were there when we needed them, ready to lend a helping hand and always flexible and accommodating. For example, when my sister and her family were stranded by their airline in Miami on the way to Eleuthera, they were able to rearrange their arrival and departure dates with the Thompsons, who did everything they could to help out.
I most definitely recommend Thompson's Villas to anybody who wants to visit this breath-taking island. We will be back!

“Perfect base to explore the beautiful island of Eleuthera”

This is a large house split into 4 apartments - there are two larger apartments (at either end of the house) with combined kitchen (sink, cooker, microwave, large fridge and freezer)/dining room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and two smaller rooms in the middle of the house, with more limited kitchen facilities (sink, small fridge, microwave). The two larger apartments and one of the smaller rooms open onto the deck by the sea, the other smaller room is at the back of the house. The rooms are bright, clean, spacious, well-furnished and well-equipped, including the kitchen. There is a communal deck shared among the three apartments on the sea side of the house (also obviously available for the other apartment, just walk around the house), with a couple of steps down onto the beach, a shared barbecue and a fire pit on the beach.

The house is right beside the sea (Caribbean/west side) in South Palmetto Point, with beautiful views of the sunset and a couple of offshore islands. The beach has shells and coral fragments, and there is a rocky shelf exposed at low tide, although there is also a small, sandy area with access directly into the water from the beach. Nice snorkelling along the edge of the rock shelf, not much coral but this is the Caribbean side so that's typical - we saw several fish species including angelfish and stingrays. It was calm 5 of the 7 days we were there, while the opposite was true of the Atlantic/eastern beaches. We wore shorty wetsuits or similar for snorkelling more than 1 hr, even though the air temperature was unusually high, in the mid-80s F all week. Midges were out only between 5-6 pm on calm days, bug spray recommended.

South Palmetto Point is near the middle of Eleuthera, a great base for exploring the island. It's about 1.5 hrs drive down to the southern tip and perhaps the same up to the north. There are several small stores in South Palmetto Point, and a great bakery and farm shop for vegetables at the southern edge of town (Island Farms). We rented two cars from the owners of the house, a Ford Taurus and a Honda CRV. Although both were 2WD, the higher CRV was definitely the better vehicle for exploring the rough back roads of the island. We never needed 4WD. Owners were very helpful throughout, and met us at the airport in our rental vehicles without charge, although they do charge to pick-up at Rock Sound or North Eleuthera.
