Pub grub, family friendly not a place to dine if dinning is your thing! Full of children, basic environment that felt in need of refurbishment in the dinning areas at either end of the central nicer entrance that is the bar area. On entering you can be forgiven as were we for thinking, oh cute. We dinned to the right of the bar in the conservatory part and felt like second class citizens, in that it spoiled our first impression of the cute entrance. We got a basic canteen feel in the conservatory. Food all over the floor, VERY off putting We personally would not dine there again. We go out for the whole experience, the environment, the food, the chill out that our hard earn cash is spent on.

Looking for a typical English Country Pub, my husband and I happened on this charming place on the way back from Maldon. After having a lunchtime drink we decided we should like to come back for a meal in the evening, we were lucky, we got the last table for two. The service was excellent, the staff polite and friendly and the food, we ordered, fish and chips and Fishcakes, was very tasty indeed. Ambient atmosphere, great background music, at a level that allows you to have a conversation and all around everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Just the balm we needed after having a particularly stressful journey the day before.

Lovely pub, food good and a bonus is they’re dog friendly. Lovely large conservatory with view over the fields. Friendly atmosphere and in the spring/summer a glorious array of flowers surrounding the exterior.

Visited for lunch on a Wednesday in March.
We arrived just after 12 and were seated in the conservatory by the window with nice views of the countryside.
Amazed how busy the pub was, from young mothers, businessmen and pensioners, obviously very popular with the locals.
The servings were generous but the chips were a bit undercooked.
However, the pub had a lovely ambience and the staff were all very friendly and polite. There was also an excellent choice of vegetarian meals too which is unusual in a lot of pubs. Plenty of parking and also seating outside which was empty on this occasion as it was raining .
Would return again if in the area.
