My husband and I came to Ireland in May for a 10 day extended whirlwind trip. This was the fourth place we stayed on our driving tour of southern Ireland.

GOOD LORD THE VIEW!! As we drove up to the building, it really didn't seem like much, we'd booked through a company that assured us we would be staying at castles at every point along the way, an this place didn't initially seem to fit the bill. As you look closer, however, you see a tower behind the building up the hill a bit and that's when the castle comes into view.

The view from our room was AMAZING. We could see the Cliffs which was cool enough in and of itself to make the stay worth while. (As a side note, we did actually go see the Cliffs and I was a little chilly when I got back so I took a hot bath - the tub was to DIE for)

The absolute best part about the whole stay was the owner. He met us at the door and helped us to carry our bags. My husband sat one night with him at the bar until late while my husband had a beer and the owner told stories of his childhood growing up. At one point, he met us at dusk and took us up to the old castle on the hill to let us tour through it. This was the REAL deal - no fixing up here, just absolutely AMAZING. I suppose I should also point out that we did dine here as well, and although the food was to DIE for - the entire stay really was made by the owner and his obvious love and care he took of the place.

If we go back to Ireland, we will never stay anywhere else but here.

Room Tip: I don't know if all rooms have a view of the Cliffs, but ours did and it was breathtaking.

This was one of our favorite places we stayed in Ireland. It is a little bit of a splurge, but so worth it. The grounds are gorgeous! There is a castle built in the 1100s right next door, and the owner gives guided tours to the guests upon request. The views are spectacular. We called last-minute and they were not only able to accommodate us, but they were able to provide laundry services on short notice. Dinner was exceptionally delicious, as was breakfast. The dining room was so elegant! The room was clean and beautifully and tastefully decorated, and the bathroom was spacious. We loved everything about this place!

This hotel is lovely. Set in an old house, with an extension, it's homely but stately at the same time. Next to the castle ruins, it looks out over the cliffs, which even in the poor weather are stunning. Surrounded by greenery, this location is beautiful. If you're in or near Doolin this is the place to stay without a doubt.
Food is restaurant quality, but it does book out. Excellent options, traditional menu with some modern options, plus a great wine list. Lovely little bar as well, great to sit at after dinner, virtually your own little pub. Rooms are very comfortable, large and luxurious. Staff in the restaurant are excellent, not so much at the front desk, but generally amenable. Highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms with the views over the cliffs, definitely worth it. Hotel is not often at full ca...

OK, you do NOT actually stay in the castle adjoining this country house hotel. But you DO get a guided tour at dusk from your host to check out the somewhat dilapidated remains of the former home of two of Ireland's prominent clans. They might have been rich but they sure lived rough!! Not so the family owned country house (three generations of true family ownership) which now owns the castle remains. No, feel pampered and relax in comfort. Our luxurious corner room looked over new-mowed fields to the ocean beyond. Marvelous setting exceeded only by the exceptional caring owners and staff. We were struck with a touch of the travel ailments and the owner personally called the nearest pharmacy several miles away to ensure they stayed open late till I got there!! Now THAT is taking care of your guests. Can't say enough abt the personal touches from owners and staff. Great people.

Room Tip: try for rooms with view over the fields to the oceam

This Country House is steeped in history and is luxuriously comfortable. After a lengthy travel, tired and in need of home comforts Ballinalacken was the perfect home from home. Greeted by friendly staff everything was set to be well beyond our expectations. We were offered a tour of the Castle and when we reported for the tour were the only guests to have a private tour of the Castle by non other than the current owner. The history explained in passionate detail swept us away into a time long gone. The proximity to Doolin town is close enough and the setting perfect for the most amazing views. If we could afford to live in this house built in 1840 on a permanent basis, we certainly would. Luxury room offering the most comfortable setting imaginable. 5 Star deluxe. Extremely highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms are quite tastefully decorated and luxurious with loads of plug points.
