“Good restaurant, but not quite up to what we expected”
Review of La Barbatella

La Barbatella
Ranked #1 of 22 Restaurants in Strambino
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$23 - US$34

We were the only table that evening in August, so that did dampen the experience a little bit. The menu is creative, trying to avoid the standard fare you find in more touristic spots. But the execution of the dishes was a bit disappointing. In Italy we expect risotto to be always excellent, after all it is in the Po valley. Prices ware reasonable. Plus point is the large wine selection, stored in a glass cavern. But the staff did not really point us to special wines to go with our meal.

We were told to go there because of the creativity of the chef and ability to innovate. Besides that, a variety of excellent wines, and a professional staff. All true! Easy to find, free parking...but what is at the top is what you can eat. A limited choice may be, but a guarantee of quality! We tasted tuna fish and stewed calamari with a variety of vegetables. All absolutely fresh and very well presented. Not expensive, a top-quality restaurant.

Based on the positive feedback in Tripadvisor , we ( my wife and I ) decided to try out this restaurant . The location itself ( on a corner in a kind of industrial estate ) is not great but once you are in the restaurant that doesn't matter . After we were shown to our places , we were offered a glass of ' frizzante ' , which was great . Unfortunately I didn't note the label ( the restaurant has a webshop so that you can buy as well ) . The appetizers ( trout and pate ) were excellent , followed by excellent main courses ( slowly cooked pork and duck ) . I took a delicious dessert ( white chocolate mousse with figs ) . And the bill was reasonble . All in all : place to go
