Our family (21 people) spent a week recently at castello di magona. It was the trip of a lifetime for us. The castle is a five hundred year old unique property (it was built originally by the grand duke who ruled Tuscany) full of antiques and situated on a hill surrounded by gardens and olive groves with a commanding view of Tuscany and the Mediterrranean. Its location is also very good for day trips to Pisa, Florence, Sienna, and smaller Tuscan beach and hill towns. Alberto, the owner/manager of the property, is an absolute gem. He and his staff were at our beck and call throughout our stay, taking care of our every need (and we had a lot), and arranging for terrific treats (like musicians at one of our dinners and a truly hilarious show during another dinner) that we would never have thought of (or could have arranged) on our own. He did this all with unflappable cheerfulness and good humor. On our final night, we voted him an honorary member of our family.

We were a group of 24 in Tuscany to celebrate a 50th birthday. The facility was all we had hoped. The feeling of living as a part of all those who have inhabited this grand old lady of a Mannor before was palpable, from the huge oils in the reception hall, to the suits of armour in the hallway the castle was exceptional. If you are expecting everything to be 'new and shiny' stay somewhere else. The hospitality, food and 'Peter' more than make up for a few threadbare sofas. I would recommend the property. Deal directly with Alberto, rather than a booking agent to secure the best rental.

Room Tip: If you go, get the Grand Duca suite. It's HUGE.

We bought the Castello di Magona package (7 nights, including taxes) on LuxuryLink and were we ever thrilled that we did!! This was our first visit ( a group of 21 people) and the castle was fantastic....way better than we expected. It's about 500 years old and is chock-full of art, antiques, hidden doors, beautiful grounds, wonderful and cheerful staff, incredible floors of marble and other stone, frescoes, high ceilings and a "ghost" to boot!!!
The staff takes care of every need, happily, and gives you full run of the castle (not allowed to cook though). We will never forget our visit and past guest includes Ron Howard and his family. We have no complaints whatsoever and I already miss it!!
