Owner description: Voted No. 3 In the Top 10 Gardens of the World - by National Geographic! One of the world's great Gardens, Powerscourt is situated 20km south of Dublin City Centre in the foothills of the Wicklow mountains. The Garden was begun by Richard Wingfield in the 1740's and stretches out over 47 acres. It is a sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces, and ornamental lakes together with secret hollows, rambling walks, walled gardens and over 200 varieties of trees and shrubs. The House was gutted by fire in 1974 but recently has been reborn as an exceptional tourist destination. An audio visual brings to life the rich history of the Estate, while the double height Georgian Ballroom has been restored and hosts wedding and special events. The House is now home to the best in Irish design in gifts, clothes and furniture in the Avoca Stores and Interiors Gallery. Treat yourself to lunch at the Terrace Cafe where you can enjoy exceptional food, from each loaf of Irish bread to Mediterranean tarts or extraordinary salads. Come and explore all that Powerscourt House & Gardens has to offer, there's something for everyone from little explorers to garden enthusiasts!

“Great place ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 week ago via mobile

We visited in the late winter and even though many flowers were not in bloom, the grounds were incredibly beautiful. It is a nice place to stroll. There is a small fee to go through the gardens but it includes a headset in multiple languages. I recommend getting the headset and taking your time to visit. You can spend a couple of hours. There is a nice cafe on grounds for lunch or tea or coffee.

“Impressive gardens”

The architect Daniel Robertsson was very successful designing the garden landscape in 1840 and planted an impressive amount of interesting trees. March is a bit early for seeing all the flowers.

Enjoyed a very luxurious evening ... The food was very tasty and well served. The surroundings were like something from the film Titanic. You will enjoy any evening here ..

“An Elegant, Relaxing Place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 weeks ago

On a recent coach tour we paid a visit to the Powerscourt Estate. We had absolutely no problems taking in such a large group (although it would have been more helpful on our part had we had pre-booked) and all the staff were warm and friendly.

The gardens are beautiful. It is hard to believe how much hard work originally went into their landscaping. They are very elegant and graceful and a haven of tranquility with beautiful views. What a shame that at the time of our visit we just had to use our imaginations to see the colours that must be there when flowers are in full bloom later in the year.

No need to wear walking boots, the paths are good (although gravel as you go away from the House) and the steps can be avoided if you have a pram or wheelchair or difficulty walking.

We visited the Dolls House Museum within the main House. There is an extra charge for this, but it is worth it. I think the aisles are perhaps a little narrow for wheelchairs/prams, but I may be wrong. Best to check.

Had a coffee and cake in the tea rooms - Wow!!! Daughters were jealous when they saw the photos.

Very relaxing place to visit. Nice break from Dublin City. Give yourself at least two hours if not more to see all of the sights. Audio guide is included in price of ticket to enter grounds and provides overview of each place of interest as well as the option fior children to take part in activities. If you are on a budget take 44 Dublin bus to Enniskerry and the grounds are a 15-20 minute walk away.
