Wonderful learning experience with an enthusiastic teacher in the greatest classroom of all. Oonagh was a terrific guide and her choice of location for the tour was perfect. On our private walking tour we learned about foraging the local plant life of Ireland and the amazing bounty available in the many types of seaweed found there. Was an absolute highlight of our trip.
Oonagh gives a lot of information about wild plants and the seaweed. She is enthousiastic to share her love for nature and for me, born in Holland, it was amazing. So thank you very muchfor this adventure. ☘️Linda de Bruijn ( volunteer of CliffofMoherRetreat)
We loved going on a wild food foraging and seaweed walk with Oonagh. She was very knowledgable, very personable, and very generous with her time! We learned lots about lots of things, from harvesting and cooking nettle seeds to finding a dozen types of seaweed and tasting most of them. Lots of fun! Highly recommended!!!!
Thanks to Oonagh for a wonderful discovery walk along the Atlantic coast on Tuesday. Kids and adults all loved it. We learned so much - couldn't believe there are so many goodies to be had in the hedgerows and that you can eat all those seaweeds. We cooked up a stock that I've been drinking all week - a real energy booster, and we made seaweed crisps and a fab seaweed salad. Today will be herbal tea with honeysuckle and meadows wheat! Thanks Oonagh.
Had the most amazing and informative seaweed walk with Oonagh from the Wild Kitchen on the beach near Lahinch in Co. Clare. Oonagh is a foraging expert and on the short walk to the beach showed us many hedgerow edibles, some of which we collected and used that evening for dinner. On the beach itself Oonagh showed us how to harvest seaweed properly and identified many different sorts, telling us not only how to use them as food but also their nutritional qualities as well as other uses. Tip: bring a notepad and pen, there's a lot of information to digest! Lunch was included, we thought we'd be eating the seaweed we'd harvested but Oonagh has brought a picnic basket laden with goodies, everything was foraged from the hedgerow and the seashore, dandelion beer, seaweed crackers to name a couple, all super delicious. Having left Oonagh, later on that evening we had a seaweed bbq with our foraged seaweed accompanied by a salad from the hedgerow. Oonagh also does a landwalk which we'll definitely be doing the next time we're in the area. My ten year old son was also in attendance and found the whole morning fascinating. Highly recommended! Thanks Oonagh!
A wonderful introduction to the native plants and seaside culinary surprises you would never expect to find on your own. The guide, Oonaugh was informative, lovely and knowledgable about her local plant community with a special love and expertise in the world of seaweed. We must have sampled 10 varieties of seaweed just off the oceans edge followed by a unique lunch of finely prepared delicacies from land and sea. What an eye opening experience which made our first few days in west Ireland a memory to cherish.
