Spent a week in a holiday home in Summercove Lahinch . Luckily the weather was good so we spent as little time as possible in the house . The house had a very unpleasant smell , carpets throughout which is always a bad idea in rental homes , really faded bed linen , cheap furniture , broken bathroom fittings and dirty oven . The only positive part was the space ... Nice size for a holiday home . But very poor standard for a rental so would recommend to avoid the place . The family in the house beside us were also very disappointed . !!!! We won't be back !

I have just come back from a four night stay at one of the Summercove Houses with my partner, parents and my brother's family - 6 adults, a toddler and a baby. We booked the 'deal' through Super Valu getaways (link attached) and as seen via the link the housess were advertised as 4 star. http://www.supervalugetawaybreaks.com/index.cfm/availability/doGetAvailableProviders

Upon walking through the front door the walls in the hall were marked very badly and had patches of filler all over over them as if having been prepared for painting. The living room furniture was old and basic and again the walls were dirty. The kitchen was very old and the equipment half broken (we took out a spatula to make eggs one morning and found it almost completely broken in half) and the bookshelf in the hall fell apart when we tried to move it a few inches to block the stairs from the baby (no stair gate provided). The upstairs carpets were badly stained and for the entire stay there was a slightly sweaty and stale smell in the main bathroom. The man who let us into the house told us the main bathroom shower was pretty poor so we all had to use the ensuite shower in my brother's bedroom. The bedding was clean but old and the pillows were like rocks.

The second day we were there the power went and we had to go around the house plugging in and out appliances to see what it was. It turned out to be the dishwasher which was evidently on the way out and so we had to take out all the dishes and wash them by hand and do that for the duration of the trip with the dishwasher having water in the bottom all week.

My partner and I had planned to do some cooking/baking for the week but the kitchen facilities were just too bad to make that an enjoyable experience. The kettle and toaster were as budget as you can get and we ended up spending as little time as possible in the house. Luckily Lahinch has lots to do!

The positives about the place were that it was fairly spacious and all bedrooms had double beds so there was plenty of room for six adults and two small children. It was also clean in terms of surface cleanliness - hoovered, washed etc. and the big table in the kitchen meant we could all eat dinner together and have a nice time. The location was also decent being half a mile from Lahinch and along a safe little country road with footpaths all the way into town and had we been expecting a 2 star house we'd probably have been pretty happy. The ensuite shower was nice and powerful and with two children we used the washing machine and dryer quite a lot, which were up to scratch.

The house was tired and shabby and I definitely would not recommend Summercove without making people aware of what to expect.
